Strange Behavior with Differential Backup

Thread needs solution

Trying to see if differential backup still wants access to intermediate versions to restore, upon making an full and two successive differentials onto an external SSD, and removing the 2nd, a slightly odd thing happens:

1. I'm told I can't find version 3 (even thought it's version 2 that has been removed)

And then the annoying failure to find version 2, even when I was only actually trying to restore version 1.

Acronis people should perhaps note that HDClone is relentlessly catching up with them as a backup solution ... they now have no-nonsense differential backups, which would seem ideal archival-type volumes where things are mostly only addded, and orig + 1 diff is really all you need.

Agreed. ATI continues trying to keep track of all the backup files it has created, and stores this information in its database, which can easily be thrown off by manual changes on the files. You would hope that the requirement to keep the chains intact would vary between a full, differential or incremental "chain/series", but it appears it does not.

To get it all back in sync, try doing a manual validation and respond "ignore" to each of the error message prompts.
