Strange Disk Read Error

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone,  I have been unable to create a full backup since upgrading to Windows 10 a few weeks ago.  The backup aborts due to a fail to read sector on my external Seagate 320gb drive. I have run the  chkdsk E: /f /r /x  and it fixes or reports no problems.  I also have no problem creating/copying/deleting anything using Windows File Explorer.  Only Acronis True Image 2016 seems to not like that drive...

I am enclosing screens shot of the error message.

Thanks for your help.

Fred, welcome to these user forums.

Acronis numbers disk drives from 1 not 0 as Windows does, therefore you need to run CHKDSK against your source drive not the external Seagate drive. This is confirmed by the reference to 'Failed to read snapshot' part of the message you are seeing, where the MS VSS service created the snapshot in the free space of your main OS drive.

Thanks, I didn't know that...
