Stuck on calculating and then cannot stop task

Thread needs solution

Am running True Image 2016 build 6569 on Window 7 64

The cloud back up has run OK.  The local backup to an external drive is stuck on calculating time etc.  I cannot stop the backup and so cannot stop the computer without forcing a shut down

 

How do I solve this

It is difficult to guess at what is causing your local backup task to be stuck on calculating time without having more information to work with.

There can be various different reasons such as disk issues for the source or target disk drives, conflicts with other applications, problems with the Microsoft VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service), lack of free space etc.

Are you backing up the same data to your external drive as is backed up to the Acronis Cloud?
If so, that would tend to lessen the likelihood of a source disk issue, though not rule it out completely as the Cloud backup only transfers a delta image of the changes made since the previous backup(s).

Please see KB document: 56697: Acronis True Image 2016: Services and Processes which has a full list of all the Acronis Services and Programs that are active on your system.  You could go into the Windows Task Manager and end each of these processes in order to cancel the stuck task.

I would recommend downloading a copy of the Log File Viewer app from this forum and using that to look at the logs for this problem task - you are welcome to upload copies of the logs to the forum to let us help you interpret the contents.
