Successfully back up files are restoring unreadable with gibberish symbols in the body content
Backup task completes successfully. However, when I go into the backup (tib) or try to restore the files, they are unreadable. It shows the files, the sizes, everything looks good, but, when I try to open the file, it is filled with symbols and gibberish. Below I pasted the backup results, and below that is a sample of the gibberish.

The gibberish is every file. When i try to restore the full backup to another disk, the disk fails to start Windows OS because it says it is corrupted windows files. Does this mean all the files are corrupted. I know this may sound stupid, however, is there a way to repair them once corrupted?

Hi Steve, Before I can open the backup image, it asks for the password, which I put it in and it accepts. Then, I am able to delve into the backup, either through windows, or through the acronis 2016 app, it is the same. Restoring the files either through the app, or manually accessing through windows, and copying and pasting out of the USB storage backup and onto my new computer, the files are all gibberish.

Sam, that is very strange and the first time I have heard of such an issue with password encrypted backup images.
Are you able to do a test with a non-encrypted backup of some of the same data (or equivalent data) and check what happens when you take that data to the new computer?
Out of interest is there any other encryption involved here outside of ATI password protection, i.e. BitLocker, VeraCrypt or anything of that ilk?
One other question, how do these same files look if you open the .tib on the original computer where the backup was created?

Steve, you are right about the encrypted files. I was not aware the files were encrypted by a third party software. I was able to successfully mount the full acronis backup to my new computer and then decrypt the files that I needed. This solves the mystery. Thanks for sparking the idea of it being encrypted. I think it is hard to see clearly when you are in the misery and agony of the thought of losing files.

Sam, glad to hear that this mystery has been cleared up, thanks for the feedback.
