[SUGGESTION] Switch to make Next full backup the first backup reserve
ATIH 2016 b5586
Hello everyone,
another great feature idea came into my mind when browsing through my Acronis Backups
Acronis has a feature to keep the first backup and will continue with the backup chain of full backups / increments or differential backups. So depending the configuration the user has a chain of incemental and differential backups + 1 full backup that is part of the rotation + the first backup that will not be overwritten.
This is a GREAT feature!
Now I noticed that one of those 1st backups became aged but I don't want to delete it manually as it is not supported and advised by Acronis to avoid deleting any backup files manually within a chain / ruleset.
So I thought myself - hey this backup is from Feb. 2015 in a worst case scenario if my current full backup (incl increments etc) is bugged / destroyed etc I would not want to restore this first backup anymore (Windows Updates / release updates esp. with Windows 10) etc.
Rather I think the current full backup can be considered stable and replace the February first backup as reserve / take its place as first backup instead.
I hope you can follow me...
My suggestion:
Please give us an option that tells Acronis to replace this aged 1st backup by the next full backup one time and proceed with the chain as usual. So all I would like to have is a flag that I can set manually or even plan (e.g. replace 1st backup every 60 days)
This would make manually interventions obsolete.
Hope you like the idea, and I hope furthermore this gets implemented in ATIH 2016. I would really use it.

Thanks Ian! Yes basically you are right I could copy the first backup to another location, but then free space is a limiting factor, especially when it comes to SSDs and some of the computers / or users do not have an external disk.
