Thread needs solution

I am trying to adapt to TI 2016 after years of using 2010.  Not sure why the interface was changed, other than somebody needed to justify their existence at Acronis.  It could not have been easier and more straightforward on 2010!!

Anyway, to the current issue(s);

Is there a reason TI 2016 is slow to launch on Windows 10?  Seems like the whole program runs at a snails pace?

When I launch, I get a "sign in" screen.  I type my username and password (which obviously works since I am on this forum), not sure why I need to do this, but I get a Sync Agent error.  Should I be concerned?  I just click the X and continue on.

i originally backed up my C drive, but that function stopped working.  Now I back up the entire PC.  I would prefer to know that I am making an IMAGE of the hard drive, not a backup.  Is that what the program is doing?

Should I need to restore, do I need some sort of media?  My computer has no CD/DVD drive.  Can I use a USB drive?

Sorry - I should have added that when I shut down the computer, it tells me Acronis must terminate tasks that are running.  But I have no tasks that I have asked to be run, other than the failed attempt at sign in.

Hello Tom, if you look at some of the other recent posts in this forum you will see others reporting the same startup and shutdown issues that you mention, as well as having a moan at the dumbing down of the 2016 version as compared to earlier ones like 2010.

As far as 2016 goes, your backup is still in the same TIB image format that 2010 used and if you upgraded directly by installing 2016 over the top of 2010, then I suspect that you would need to 'reconfigure' your old backup tasks, or perhaps easier, to create new tasks to do the same as the old ones won't continue working without reconfiguration.

You can decide whether to backup (image) the whole system or select individual partitions, just click on the left side of the task window and Choose your own Source for the data to be backed up, the same on the right side for the target of where to store your backup.  In the 2016 version this defaults to wanting to store backups in the Acronis Cloud, but this is an additional paid subscription service that you do not need to use, just choose to store on either an external drive or a separate partition on your system.   The Options button allows you to choose what type of backup to perform, i.e. incremental, differential or nonstop etc, plus gives you all the scheduling options, exclusions, notifications etc.

The sign-in screen relates to the Acronis Cloud service as far as I can tell, but is also used to display licence information too to show that your copy of 2016 is activated etc.  

On the restore / recovery side, then if your system is incapable of running Windows, you will need to create recovery / rescue boot media - by default Acronis can provide the Startup Recover Manager that you can activate and which will give you the F11 prompt on boot to allow you to go into the standard Linux based environment.  If you have a modern UEFI / Secure Boot / GPT system, then the Linux environment may not be able to 'see' your hard drive or partitions and you will need to create WinPE based rescue media - this can be created on a bootable USB drive - you need at least 500MB space on the USB drive and the utility will make it bootable for you.  You can also use a WIM rescue image and add this to your boot options so that it comes up as an additional choice alongside Windows 10 - there are other posts in the forum that have discussed this in detail recently too.
