Tib file not showing up when trying to restore to new ssd drive?

Thread needs solution

I performed a complete Acronis True Image copy from my HP laptop to the new PNY SSD drive, and when I swap drives to restore the image, I am unable to locate any .tib file on the hard drive.

Please help.  I've spent over 10 hours trying to clone my windows 7 machine with nothing to show for.

Thank you!

Travis, did you clone your HP laptop to the SSD? If so then there is no .tib file. A .tib file is only created if you make backup image. Cloning and a backup image are two totally different processes. Cloning makes an exact copy of one disk to another resulting in a new copy of the drive. A backup image,.tib file, is copy of the dirve stored in a compressed container. Please explain exactly what you did so we can help.

Ditto to thomasjk's post - if you clone and it said successful, then the job is already done.  HOWEVER, to test teh new clone.... BEFORE you ever try to boot into Windows, you should move the cloned drive to the location where teh original drive was and keep the original disconnected.  Then boot the system with the newly cloned drive and make sure it boots.  If it does, then you can hold onto your old hard drive for posterity (probably a good idea to make sure the clone drive is functioning as expected).

Check out some of these videos - they should help explain the differences and steps you should use:

Ok when I try to boot from cloned drive I get a Windows Boot Manager screen that says "Windows failed to start" and to repair my computer.  It says "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

Please advise as I've been through all the steps as described in instructions.

Thank you

Travis, I'm assuming you followed the Acrons instructions for cloning. I suggest you read the following link from HP which may help http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03742786.

Not sure of why you're getting this message.  Did you clone from SATA to SATA or from a different type of interface like from IDE to SATA? (that can be an issue).  Did you make sure to put the newly cloned disk exactly where the original used to be and disconnect the original hard drive before every booting into Windows?

When this message appears, you can usually do a startup repair in Windows and it will fix this, but if the default repair doesn't do the trick, there are a couple of commands you can run in the startup repair advanced options section under commpand prompt:

bootrec /rebuild bcd      <enter>

bootrec /fixmbr   <enter>

bootrec /fixboot       <enter>

reboot - if you still get the message, do a startup repair again and then reboot one more time and hopefully you're back in business

Thanks Thomas but I didn't see anything there that helps.  I can't get past the failed to boot up screen and I've followed all instructions to a T.

Thanks bobbo- not sure about ide or sata- it uses the same sata cable so does that mean they are both sata?

How do you get to that command prompt screen when it won't go passed the failed to boot screen at startup?

Travis

To get to the command screen, you would use the Windows installation DVD for example, or a WinPE disk (if you had created one with Acronis, instead or in addition of the standard Linux based rescue CD).

Another thing to do is to redo the clone operation. Put the new disk on the connector of the old disk, put the old disk on some other connector or USB/SATA adapter and do the clone working from the Acronis rescue CD.

ImportantL make sure you don't reboot with both disks connected. Disconnect the old disk before rebooting the first time.

Alternatively, put the new disk back where it was and do a full disk & partition backup. This will create a TIB file on some USB disk you have. Then boo the computer on the Acronis rescue disk and perform a full image restore on the new SSD.

Thanks Pat.  I did everything you said and same problems persist.

You would think things would just work.  How dissapointing and such a waste of my weekend.
