Hello all,

I am preparing to upgrade a Win8.1 to Win10.
The computer is currently running TIH2014.

Question:
Should I use the Windows UNINSTALL to remove TIH2014 PRIOR to the Upgrade to Win 10 ??
or
Wait until the Upgrade to Win10 is complete and :
1. Uninstall 2014 using the windows uninstall and then Install 2016
or
2. Install 2016 over 2014 on the Win10 machine?
or
Another Method ?

I don't want to mess this up and create a registration nightmare or end up with a TIH that will not install correctly.

Your suggestions would be very much appreciated.

ATI 2016 is supposed to install over ATI 2014 and 2015; I have installed it over ATI 2015 but not ATI 2016. I updated 4 systems with either ATI 2015 or ATI 2016 beta in place (Win 8.1 Pro 64 to Win 10 Pro 64) without issues specific to ATI.

If you are going to uninstall, I would do it before upgrading Windows as the Acronis clean-up tool is not yet available for Win 10.

In the past I have always uninstalled an old version before installing a new version, but this time around I did not.

The only issue with doing a clean install is that it will find all *.tib files on your system, so if there are some you do not wish to include in ATI listing, you have to exclude them manually.

Ian,

Thank you for your reply.
I appreciate your comments.

I suppose that I will just run the TIH2016 install with 2014 still on the system and see what happens.
What could go wrong, right ?

All of my backup files are on a separate drive which is disconnected. I didn't want anything "messing" with my valuable backups during a windows or TIH upgrade.

If everything turns to crap, I can always recover my Win8.1 with TIH 2014 and start all over...

Thanks !
Steve

Be advised that the TI 2015 cleanup tool has been updated to run on Windows 10. I used it today to remove the uninstall leftovers from the 2016 RTM and it all went without a hitch.

Enchantech,

Hello and thanks for the reply.
That may be my best option. Uninstall TIH2014 before installing TIH2016.
Where may I find the TI2015 cleanup tool ?
Steve

Here is a link for instructions on usage of the cleanup tool including a link to the download. You can uninstall the app using either the apps built in uninstaller or with Windows program manager. Once uninstalled you then run the cleanup tool. Make certain to follow all instructions including the registry changes. You also need to run the tool as an admin.

Enchantech,

Thank you for the link.
I'll be testing the win8.1 upgrade to Win10 today and wanted to make sure that TIH2016 could be installed without any problems.

As always, we appreciate your advice !

Hello all...
Just a quick FYI update...

Process: Upgrade Win8.1 to Win 10 Pro and what to do with the existing TIH2014 ( Will upgrade to 2016 when Win10 install is complete)

1. Used Windows 8.1 uninstall to remove TIH2014 (nothing else done)
2. Activated the Win8.1 to Win10 update process.
3. Tested Win10Pro (All ok)
4. Installed TIH2016 (no prob)
5. Installed TIH2016 Universal Restore (no prob)
6. Installed TIH2016 Media Add on (no Problem)
7. Tested a Win10 partition backup (no Problem)
8. NEXT Test: Restore to a New HDD

So, all went well. Better than I expected. Actually, I had visions of horror during the upgrade.
But to my surprise, everything went according to "hoyle"
Wonderful...

Hello!

Please, be aware that for the moment there is no public version of CleanUp utility for Acronis True Image 2016.
We strongly recommend you to use Installation file to uninstall you product.

Thank you,
