(TIME SENSITIVE) Nonstop Backup will Not start after System Hard Reset

Thread needs solution

Recently due to a driver problem i was forced to hard reset my pc. since this incident my nonstop backup will not start. it will enter the preparing for backup phase and than the icon next to the backup will turn into a orange exclimation point the program doesent even tell me what the error was or provide any information as to why the operation failed I use the NSB function for my visual studio projects and i absolutly cannot have this backup offline for any length of time.

the fact that this can happen at all shows piss poor programming since backup software should have redundancies and failsafes to prevent this kind of corruption. if a nonstop backup can be damaged by something like a hard reboot than it is clearly not effective as a backup solution since this is very type of issue that its designed to protect against

Mike, what do you mean by doing a 'hard reset' for your PC?  That may be the key to what is stopping NSB from starting for you?

See KB document: 32417: Acronis True Image: Troubleshooting Nonstop Backup for help in this area.

I would suggest downloading a copy of the latest ATIH 2016 build 6571 from your Acronis account and starting a repair install of this over the top of what you have installed to see if this will help restore normal operation again.

I was betatesting a piece of software which caused my video driver to stop responding. I had to restart the computer using the restart button instead of shutting down.

but my problem is first and formost lack of an error message since it is impossible for me to trouble shoot a problem when there is no other information other than a stupid orange incon

Mike, have you tried the Log File Viewer app to see if there are any messages in any of the logs involved here, you can switch between the logs using the Log Type menu option?

Another KB document: 14708: Acronis Nonstop Backup Pauses may or may not  be relevant here but explains some of the circumstances where NSB may pause for periods of an hour or even a day!

If this is very urgent to get resolved, then see post: 18623: How to get Technical Support: Tips, Tricks and Useful Information - in particular:

4.    Priority Pay Per Incident Support
- Related to the technical issues with the product
- Priced per incident
- Valid for 1 incident only
- 24x7
- Provided via e-mail, chat, phone
Response time:

I understand the cost is $20 which may be worth paying to get this sorted asap.

Actually what i ended up doing is copying the time explorer folder to another location so i could delete and recreate the NSB without acronis deleting the existing TIB. that seems to have resolved the issue and i still have the old versions archived if i need them

though to be honest recent versions of acronis are very clearly sucumbing to what my professor refered to as Code Rot. this happens when the complexity of the software becomes greater than the function it needs to perform.

the fundamental issue with current versions of acronis are that the whole system is too deeply integrated into the operating system which results in a situation where the program it's self has too many potential points of failure.

Mike, thanks for giving feedback on what resolved this for you.
