Trouble cloning MBR disk
I am trying to clone an MBR disk in an old Dell Optiplex 3010. For some reason, I can only boot my Acronis bootable CD up in UEFI mode. When I do this, I can perform the cloning operation, but my disk ends up being GPT! The Dell will not boot to this new drive in either Legacy mode or UEFI mode.
So, can someone tell me how to clone and make sure that the destination drive matches the source drive's partition table? I need the destination drive to be MBR, not GPT!
Or, can someone tell me the magic trick for getting my Acronis bootable CD to boot in Legacy mode instead of UEFI on this old Dell? If I do this, I'm almost certain I won't have trouble cloning MBR-to-MBR.

Hello Lew,
Welcome to Acronis forums! Generally you should be able to change the boot mode in the BIOS as follows https://www.404techsupport.com/2013/03/14/configuring-dell-uefi-bios-to…
Also take a look at the step-by-step screenshots shared by Bobbo_3C0X1 one of our MVPs, which illustrate the way you can change the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy and vice versa.

Yes, I really have no trouble changing between Legacy and UEFI mode. The problem is that I cannot get the CD/DVD drive to boot when Legacy Mode is selected. No matter what the boot order is, the hard drive boots up. Even if the hard drive is disconnected, a message comes up saying "A bootable disk could not be found". I have not had this problem with other Dells.
My real question is: Why does the boot mode selected for the CD/DVD affect the cloning operation? If the source disk is MBR and the destination ends up as GPT, how can you even call that a clone?

Lew, please see forum topic: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this - one of the key messages here is to ensure that you have a full Disk & Partitions backup of your "MBR disk in an old Dell Optiplex 3010".
Once you have that full backup, then you can try Restoring that backup to the new drive using the Windows ATI 2016 application with the new drive attached externally via USB or using a Dock.
