True Image GUI doesn't start.

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone and happy new year.

For the second time I have a problem with ATI (2016 this time, but 2015 on another PC).

It seems that the problem arises after changing the "after task" of a scheduled backup.

The problem is that the ATI GUI does not start.

In the task manager, there is an Acronis True Image 2016 (32 bits) entry, but the Acronis "windows" do not appear.

I tried the Acronis "repair", but without success.

On the first PC (Windows 10 Pro), I tried to reinstall ATI, but without success too.

On this first PC (Windows 7), the only solution was to restore a system backup (thanks Acronis ;-).

I would find a better solution. Can you help me ?

Thank you.

Stéphane

Hi Stéphane, and a Happy New Year to you too!

Do I understand you correctly when you refer to "that the problem arises after changing the "after task" of a scheduled backup." that you mean a Post Command for the backup task?

If so, then with the ATI GUI closed, open the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder in Explorer and you should see one or more .TIB.TIS files stored there.

The .tib.tis files are XML data files containing the script for your backup task, so open these in a text editor such as Notepad, then you will see entries used by the backup, including those for your Post Command.

The section for the Post Command should look similar to the one shown below but with extra information for your post command.  The section below is for a task without a post command!

        </operations>
        <after>
            <user_command>
                <command enabled="false" />
            </user_command>
        </after>
        <after>
            <user_command>
                <command enabled="false" />
            </user_command>
        </after>
    </stage>

Each line in the XML format has a starting and ending bracket that must be present for the XML to be valid.

Starting brackets just have a descriptive word, i.e. after, user_command, whereas ending brackets include a '/' character to close the bracket, i.e. /after, /user_command.

The simplest change to make would be to reset the after command to have no post command action, then add this back as needed after the ATI GUI is open and the task options can be changed by that method.

Note: you may be best to restart Windows after making any changes to the XML file to flush any data held in memory for the Acronis task.

Hello Steve.

Thank you for your reply.
I knew you were going to help me :-)

You are right, the correct term is "post" ;-)

I did as you suggested to me.I copy the content of the script below.
You will see that it is exactly the same as yours.
In fact, it seems to me that the problem appeared after I deleted the "post" command that existed before.
I seem to remember that I got an error message (I can't remember which one exactly), which I ignored, then I closed Acronis.
The GUI failed to launch during the next Acronis startup.

Do you have another idea?

Thank you.

Stephane, the next suggestion would be to move the .tib.tis file out of the scripts folder then see if the GUI will open?

Hello Steve.

I only have one word, you are a chef !

I would never have thought of it !

Acronis is now working properly, (well for now, the interface opens normally).

Thank you very much, you take a big thorn out of my foot (French expression, I don't know if there is the English equivalent) :-)

Stephane

Glad to be able to help Stephane!

Hi Steve.

And in addition, I learn the origin of the expression "remove a thorn from the foot"!

What more :-)

Best regards.

Stéphane
