TrueImage 2016 application suddenly not starting anymore
My TrueImage 2016 installation worked fine for several months. But suddenly the application does not start anymore. The TrueImage process is running if I check the Task Manager but the application frame is not showing up.
This happened after I tried to modify an exisiting file backup task. After I added an additional folder as source I got a strange error code for which no entry could be found in the knowledge base. I closed the TrueImage application and tried to start it again which failed. Afterwards it was no longer possible to start TrueImage 2016 application again.
I already tried a repair installation which did not help. It seems that the corrupted backup task configuration is causing the issue?

Hi Steve,
thank you for this great tip. I have found the TIS file of the task which I have modified and removed it. True Image seems to start correctly now.
I checked the TIS filebut I could not find any corruption compared to other TIS files. The only things I realized is that
volume_location device_instance_id="" entries without an ID. Is this OK backup target is a local hard drive?
I also noticed that True Image shows an other name of the backup task in the UI after the mentioned error occured. The new name was something like a backup file name "backupname_full_b11_s1_v1" instead of the real display name of the task which is correct in the TIS file. True Image still shows the corrupted task name "backupname_full_b11_s1_v1" under the category "Other" in the UI after I have removed the TIS file.

Brain, glad that the tip has help to get your ATIH 2016 starting OK again.
Ref the .TIS files and contents, I would tend to leave them alone and just let Acronis create them correctly through the main GUI - you could spend a lot of time trying to figure out all the vagaries of the XML content only to have Acronis walk right over any changes when the task runs in the GUI the next time.
The reason for your tasks showing the full file name such as "backupname_full_b11_s1_v1" is simply because the application has scanned your backup destination drive and added in backups it found there that didn't already have a matching task in the GUI. You can either remove these again, or use the Reconfigure button and rename the task name back to how it was when the file was created.

Thanks to TI I was able to retrieve an older version of the TIS file from a backup :-)
The problem seems to be that "computer_id" and "device_instance_id" have been changed (or removed). Any idea why this happened?

Brain, sorry but I would be purely guessing as to why this problem occurred.

No problem. Anyway thanks for your help. I removed and re-created the backup task. Not nice but messing around with the internal config files seems not to be a good idea ;-)

Brain, it is hard to relate the symptoms that you describe to any of the known issues/behaviors, but it is good to know that the program starts normally now.
You see, sometimes some surgery/repairs need to be done to resolve a problem. Steve and others with "Acronis MVP Volunteer" title are great experts at that, and the suggestion about editing .TIS was absolutely valid and was a brilliant idea.
Note that several months ago we extended the support period for Acronis True Image 2016 from 30 days to 2 years and if you are looking for an official answer about anything related to Acronis software, do not hesitate to open a support ticket. We would be happy to help you!
Regards,
Slava
