Unable to send mail notification with gmail

Thread needs solution

Hi guys, I've upgraded from True Image 2015 to the 2016 version on a notebook with Windows 10 64bit.

With the 2015 version I was able to send an email notification with gmail, following the document in the Knowledge Base, but now, with the 2016 version I'm not able anymore.

I don't know how to do, I've re-read the document in the knowledge base and everything is ok.

Please help me, the email notification are extremely useful for me.

Ciao

Hello Andrea,

Google Mail have introduced additional security controls for what they term as 'less secure applications' which prevent Acronis from sending Notifications.

Please see the attached document that describes how to solve this issue with Gmail.

Hi Steve, thank you, but those settings are the same I used before upgrading to the 2016 version for more than one year.

Now I'm not able to send email notifications even if I checked and re-checked and the settings are correct.

Hello Andrea,

Have you tried email notifications on a newly created backup plan? I suppose that after you upgraded, old backup tasks remained in the interface and you were checking their settings. Can you set up a completely new backup task and see if email notifications now succeed? I suggest you to click on "Show extended settings" link, make a screenshot, save it, uninstall 2016 version, reboot the computer, install 2015, make sure that email notifications are working, make a screenshot of its settings and compare with what you had on 2016 version, and see if there is any difference, including "extended settings" part.

If this does not help you, please contact us at www.acronis.com/support to get further assistance.

Regards,

Slava

Hi everone,

I've been struggling with this for a while now. I'm with VirginMedia, not Gmail, but the problem is the same: emails (including the test email) don't send.

John

One solution that seems to work is to remove the Subject field on the Email Notification then try the test message again.  If that doesn't work, then also try switching between SSL port 465 and TLS port 567 and back again with trying the test message inbetween.

I had the same problem with a new task I was setting up after the update to build 6571 and a combination of the above activities got it working again.

John, I have it working with gmail but haven't tried for quite a while to see if my VirginMedia account would work, I will give it a try when I have the time and try to remember to post a follow on with the results.

Hi Steve,

I've tried all the "tricks" (more than once) and nothing works.

I'm going to set up a new task and see if there is any change.

John

Edit:

I did but still unable to send emails

Hi John,

I am able to setup email notifications using Gmail as per the document I posted in the first reply on this thread #1.

I tried to get this working for my NTLWORLD account using either the NTL or Virginmedia servers but had no joy, even though all the settings apart from server name and credentials look the same as those used for Gmail when I compare the section in the Acronis backup task script file.

When I change the settings back to Gmail all works fine.  Very strange and annoying!

I also tried with a different ISP that hosts one of my websites and that wouldn't work either!

So, for me, it's back to just using Gmail which does work.

Steve,

I had a quick trawl through the VM forums, and this appears to be a problem at VM's end, with not a hint of them being concerned about finding a fix. They just refer people to the standard settings. Useless!

So I have changed Acronis to use my gmail account, with automatic forwarding to my ntlworld email account. Had to change one of the gmail security settings to allow "insecure" apps to have access and then the test emails went through.

Thanks for your help.

John

Hi guys, the mail notifications started working few days ago without any intervention. My pc has some problems with DNS when connected to the company LAN, I think that this is the real problem.

Thanks to everybody for helping me.

hi,

after hours, several tests and modifications (first testmail did, after that with the same configuration never again) and somthing over 1h with acronis support (it is now a ticket for their specialists!) i took the above mentioned tipp -> gmail

and -> it works  - let us monitor how long!

thanx

georg

I'm beginning to think that Acronis Backup 2018 has a problem with gmail and its ports. Have tried without envryption on 25(nfg). SSL on 465(NFG) and TLS on 587(NFG). My other email program(incredimail) uses the identical user/pw, SSL on 465 and it works OK. I have told gmail to use 'less' secure programs, still NFG. Firewall both on and off(NFG). It's reasonable to assume that google can stay on 'more' secure programs so long as the port and encryption methods are correct. This has been working for several months with incredimail.

Further, there is an error in the port selection. When I click on SSL the default port becomes 587, but should be 465.

Very frustrating!

CC_Rider, I have ATI 2018 working fine with gmail using the combination of TLS and 587 though I had to tell gmail to allow insecure apps and haven't tried with that disabled.
