unopened TI 2014, what to do with?

Thread needs solution

I'm finally ready to install True Image 2014; it's a still-SEALED 3PC box.  I want to run True Image on Windows 8.1

Can I simply use the 2014 product key to download/activate True Image 2016?

If not, how good an idea would it be to buy 2016 instead, please?  (Since my 2014 is sealed, I could defray some of the cost by selling it.)

Thank you in advance for your help!

coyote

p.s.  I'll be a first-time True Image user, after decades using Norton Ghost.

coyote, welcome to these user forums.

Please see KB document: 44112: Acronis True Image 2014: Supported Operating Systems which shows where you can use ATIH 2014, but note that you should update this to the latest build version if installing from the sealed box copy.

You cannot use the ATIH 2014 product key to activate any other version of ATIH - it is unique to the version it was supplied with.

You should create an Acronis Account at http://www.acronis.com/ if you intend to keep the product and register your product key / serial number in your account, then you can download the latest build and other available media files.

The choice is yours as to whether to stay with ATIH 2014 or sell this and purchase the 2016 version.  Note that ATIH 2017 is due to be release very soon in the next few weeks if still undecided.

The key reason for upgrading to a later version is if you will be running Windows 10 systems, in which case ATIH 2014 is not supported by Acronis for use with Windows 10 though it does work for some users (not sure if the Win 10 Anniversary Update will break this!).

Thank you very much, Steve!

While this PC can't upgrade to Win10, I do anticipate using Win10 elsewhere.

coyote,

By activating ATI 2014, you would qualify for an upgrade license for 2016.  A single license for 2014 would qualify for a multi license for 2016.
