Update to Build 6569
I updated to Build 6569 and acronis changed my external WD drive from drive "G" to drive "H". This is at least the third time this has hapened with 2015 and 2016. This first time a technician on a Chat got it fixed after a considerable time. Another time, I fixed it using Windows Explorer, but I don't remember how. I have a "Path error" because my backups are "G/..." while the drive is now "H/...". How do I fix this?

You change the drive letters using "Disk Management"...let me do some research on Win 7 disk management.

dfrancis,
You should do a google search on Windows 7 Disk Management...there are several links which will tell you how to get to disk management.

Dfrancis, I suspect it is not Acronis changing the drive letter, but Widows itself. Windows will automatically assign the next available drive letter if the existing one is in use.
Example:
You have a single internal OS drive that is always C:. You have an external USB drive that is normally D:. You power off the system with D: connected and instert a flash drive and boot the machine. Windows assigns the flash drive D: first and since D is in use your USB drive that is normally D is now E and will continue to be E in the future. you can change it back to D in computer management, but this could change again.
To avoid this from happening, give your USB hard drive a letter further down the alphabet chain (for instance R). That way, if you have a bunch of other flash drives insterted first, the chances of their being enough of them to get to R automatically and forcing your other drive to S is not as likely. If you make it Z and work your way back, you're probably better off.

This is great! I looked all over and I was not able to find a straightforward way to change the disk letter. This one is very straightforward. For the time being, I changed it to "G" which is what it had been. I did this because I wanted to do an incremental on the previous backup. However, after changing the drive designation, it still did not recognize the path. I went to Acronis to change the path to "G". This took some search and prayer work. It backed up, but it performed a new full backup. When I have some time, I will do what you suggest and change the drive to "J". Then I will have to the search and prayer to chnge the drive letter in Acronis. Thanks you again.

I would recommend creating a new backup task when you need to change drive letters for the source or destination drive as that way you will have the correct information stored in the Acronis Database and not risk getting the database 'confused' and looking for incorrect paths based on where previous backup versions were stored when the task was originally created with a different drive letter.

Yes, that is correct, or alternatively you can click on the (V) at the side of the existing task and take the option to Clone Settings and then setup the new task based on the settings in the original one.

Thank you. You have been more helpful than any of the technical people at Acronis. As a result, I will keep Acronis True Image.
