Upgrading 4 licenses in 2 households. Use my account & old license only?

Thread needs solution

I'm doing maintenance on my parents' computers & my own. I bought an Acronis 2014 3 Pack for my household and another for their household, so there's different licenses in play. I can't seem to find the Acronis login information for my parent's machines (they may have never logged in, there was a 3rd party purchase of this product somehow). I'm upgrading all machines to Acronis 2016 by installing the Trial version on each. The 30 days is almost up. Can I buy a 3+1 upgrade license for my account and use 2 of the licenses for my parent's machines? Which old license key should I use on their machines, my old one or my parent's old one?

Hi Eric,

IF your parents was a boxed version, the keys would have come with it.  They would have had to register the keys on the Acronis website to their account.  There is a retrieve serial key website from Acronis so try it and see if they did register.  Otherwise, if they still have the keys from the box, and didn't register before, they can still do this.  If never registered before, you can just add them to your account, or go ahead and create a new account for them and register it for them.

Unfortunately, if they don't still have the keys, that might be an issue though.  In 2015/2016 - when the application is launched, you can go to the account tab and "show serial" number and get the key from there.  I can't remember if it is similar in 2014 or not, but I believe there is a similar option.  If not, Acronis may have a way of helping you find the key from the license already in use on the system, but I'm not sure.

Regardless, if you are upgrading, the upgrade fees are the same.  You can do an upgrade for 1, 3, or 5 licenses, from any existing license.  So, in your case, you could just do a 5 license upgrade from your existing 3 license upgrade and use that for all of your systems.  That's probably the easisest and most cost effective anyway.  Also looks like Acronis is offering one free license at this time, so if 4 is enough you could get the 3 license upgrade and 1 free.  I just tested the 5 license upgrade and was offered an extra 15% just for clickign the link if purchasing "right now" - hopefully you can get the same offer.

Otherwise, you may want to reach out to customer support to see if they have any way of helping retrieve your parents old license keys, but may hit a dead-end if they never registered it online and don't have or know the current key.
