Using 2016 with Windows 98

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I purchased 15 licenses for backing up a range of laptops I have, however one of them is Windows 98 and is quite an old laptop. I see that True Image 2016 isnt compatible with this verision. Is it possible to download an older version and use one of my licenses with the older version?

Thanks

Bob, welcome to these user forums.

I very much doubt that you could get Acronis to provide you with a version of the product that could be installed on Windows 98 - it is just too old.

However, what you can do is to create the Acronis Rescue Media and boot your Windows 98 laptop from that media on CD and make offline backups in that way.

From the ATIH 2016 User Guide:

Supported file systems

Acronis True Image for home users supports:

  • FAT16/32
  • NTFS

As far as my memory serves me, this will cover the file system used by Windows 98 with no problem as this defaulted to FAT32.

The only alternative is whether you could find a copy of True Image 7.0 on Ebay as even later versions may have already dropped support for Windows 98.
