Using ATIH 2016 to restore from .TIB files created by ATIH 2009

Thread needs solution

For years I've used ATIH 2009, and never had a reason to upgrade. It worked just fine, and my back-ups were dialed in nicely. On the few occasions I had to use it to restore a file, it worked perfectly on my old XP machine.

Fast forward to last Sunday, and I got a BSOD. I was not able to recover from it. The dirve was D-E-A-D. No problem, I thought, when I get a new machine I'll download ATIH 2016 and restore my data from the USB drive that was attached to the old machine (where I stored my backups).

Bought a new W10 machine (Dell XPS 8700) and downloaded ATIH 2016 on a trial basis. Here's where the problems start -- no matter what I do, I cannot get ATIH 2016 to restore from the files created with ATIH 2009. The program sees the backups, but it hangs during the restoration process.

Am I screwed here, or is there some "secret potion" to get ATIH 2016 to restore from the .TIB files created by ATIH 2009?

Advice and help appreciated.

EDIT: According to this article, 2016 will not restore .TIB files created with 2009.  https://kb.acronis.com/content/1689

So, what are my options? I'd REALLY like to restore those files if at all possible.

Between your XP machines and your new Windows 10 machines, there are many changes: disk layout, BIOS vs UEFI, OS... YOu'd be facing a doable, but tall order anyway... Plus would you want to go back to Windows XP?

If you stick with Windows 10, you could try to open the TIB files directly with Windows 10 explorer, with 2016 installed in Windows. This would allow you to restore thefiles, but not the OS or programs. Did you try?

NO! I only want to recover the data files, pictures, etc.

Yes...and no joy. BUT, I was able to download a copy of ATIH 2015 which, according to the article above, will handle ATIH 2009 files. So, I did a complete uninstall of 2016 and installed 2015. As I'm writing this, 2015 appears to be restoring a folder full of data files that I need. We shall see if it's sucessful, but it's working so far. (And, of course, now that I've said that something will go sideways! ;-) )

When booted from the TI Recovery CD, it too has the restore capability.

You can use the the 2009 CD, or the 2015 CD and still have the 2016 version installed--if that is your wish.
