Validate command does nothing if TIB is new to Acronis

Thread needs solution

I found that if I copy a TIB file to another system, and on that system, I run the Validate command, it will complete right away (basically it does nothing). But if I run it a second time, it will actually do the validation.

My theory is that the first time the TIB is unrecognized because it isn't in True Image's internal database, but the second time, it is recognized, so the validation is run.

Anyway, perhaps this could be fixed to actually do the validation the first time around.

Thanks.

Are you validating via the CD method when the first validation fails?

I don't know that it would make a difference but I assume you have TI installed on the 2nd Computer.

If yes, from within Windows Explorer, right click on the copied tib file.

Choose Acronis from the right click entry

Choose validate from the Acronis optons and see what happens.

No, not doing any special method. Here are the full repro steps:

  1. Find an existing full backup TIB file. Copy it to the same machine or another machine as foo1.tib.
  2. On the machine with foo1.tib, right-click it and choose True Image -> Validate.
  3. TI will startup and enter the password if prompted.
  4. Nothing will happen, as evidenced by no progress in the TrueImage icon in the taskbar, and the fact that no new C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\service_*.log file has been created.
  5. Go back to the foo1.tib file, right-click it and choose True Image -> Validate again.
  6. TI will startup and enter the password if prompted.
  7. The TIB file will be validated, as evidenced by the progress bar in the True Image icon in the taskbar and the fact that a new C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\service_*.log file has been created with the progress of the validation. You can also check Task Manager to see that the TIB file is being read, and so forth.

You can rename foo1.tib to foo2.tib and repeat the process to see that the problem again.

Thanks.

Yes, the problems needs fixing.  You should report this to Acornis.
