Very large DB3 file??

Thread needs solution

I have noticed a very large .DB3 file (over 2GB) located in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMSData\DML.

I'm guessing the file is a database of the backup history/activity and as such it may contain obsolete information, hence its size. I've been running weekly full True Image backups for a couple of years (retaining 3x full backups).

Is there any way to reduce the size of this file, e.g. prune the database entries? I did try an Acronis remove_history utility but it made no difference at all.

Jonathan, welcome to these user forums.

I just checked on my own system and the .DB3 file in my DML folder is only 504KB so it doesn't sound right that you should have a file larger than 2GB.

Backup history information is stored in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database not the path you are looking at.

I would recommend raising a Support Case with Acronis for this question - it may be as simple as deleting the folder contents and letting ATIH rebuild any files the next time you start the application or run a scheduled task, but probably best to get a definitive answer first.

All ATIH 2016 & 2017 users get up to 2 years of free support (from date of purchase) instead of the original 30-days support.  Use the Contact link in my signature below then use the Live Chat option.  Please post back with the information as may be useful for other users too.

Hi Steve. Thanks for your response.

I tried to raise a support ticket, filled in the form, but when I press next nothing happens. All the fields are filled correctly. No errors. Screen just sits there and does nothing. Tried different browser (IE rather than Chrome) but same thing happens?

I'm tempted to move the file to another location to see what happens. If ATIH messes up I fiugure I can always move the file back?

UPDATE

I decided to do the following:

1. Ended all Acronis processes (via Windows Task Manager)

2. Stopped all Acronis Services (via Windows Task Manager). This removed 2 of the 3 files in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMSData\DML folder, leaving just the 2GB file remaining.

3. Moved the 2GB file to a temp folder

4. Restarted all the Acronis Services I had previously stopped.

5. The 3 files returned but this time the .DB3 file was just 12KB in size (Has since grown to 240KB)

6. Started Acronis True Image 2016 and everything is working fine. All my backups are still there. I can search through backups and restore files.

So everything seems fine. Will another post update if I have any problems.

Jonathan, that sounds like a very sensible approach and the results look very promising, thanks for feeding back on your actions and the results.
