Want to restore disk to drive n USB dock, REBOOT REQUIRED"

Thread needs solution

There must be somehting I can do to work around this.  I have a disk backup image and I want to restore to a drive enclosure on USB, but it is saying it needs to reboot pc.  I do not to reboot PC as it takes forever to restore.

Rebooting for this is a serious pain. I want to be able to restore to this disk regularily.

Rebooting does work fine, it does do it but takes forever but then I got no pc for a couple hours.

The drive is USB so why is it requiring reboot?

A reboot is normally required when Acronis finds locked files that cannot be processed without working outside of Windows, this is particularly so if the backup is of the Windows OS disk / partition.

You may need to check what is shown on your target USB drive, i.e. are you seeing System Volume Information folder and files to suggest that Windows is 'protecting' that drive?

There should be no issue is the target drive is unformatted, i.e. a raw drive with no data.

OK so you think if I can figure out a way to make the disk unformatted again I might have better luck.  I will do some googling.

Holy crap I figured it out, thanks!  Everywhere I looked always the answer was "Use a boot dik, or let it restart"  But I found the sipplest way to do it the way I want!

Solution: Goto disk management, delete every partition (Not FORMAT< make sure to DELETE)

It won't let u delete the EFI boot partition, that is fine to leave.

That is all!  Now it does it while the OS is still running!

Glad you have got it working for you.
