What is the correct naming sequence for these (renamed & broken) backup files?

Thread needs solution

How I got into the mess

The default Bacup Project name was Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB

After I did a full backup I changed the name of the Project, but that then gave subsequent incremental backups a different base name. I was unable to mount one of these subsequent inc backups.

So... I tried renaming the subsequent backups to match the Base. But It's still not working.

I'm guessing that I've not gotten the naming method correct.

Backup File sequence that's not Mountable

"B:\Backup\OLD\Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB_inc_b1_s4_v1.tib"
"B:\Backup\OLD\Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB_inc_b1_s3_v1.tib"
"B:\Backup\OLD\Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB_inc_b1_s2_v1.tib" NOT Mountable
And I'm doing a Validate on this (1/2 done, but no errors so far)

"B:\Backup\OLD\Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB_full_b1_s1_v1-2.tib" MOUNTABLE
"B:\Backup\OLD\Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB_full_b1_s1_v1.tib"  MOUNTABLE

Clay, the backup file names in your post above look correct to me in terms of following the defined Acronis backup file naming convention.

I suspect that the issue you have is that the Acronis Database files on your system no longer match those renamed files.

There are a couple of options that you could try here, in addition to doing a full Validation for your backup task that created all of these files.

  1. Delete the backup task settings (but not the backupfiles) so that Acronis removed the references to these files from the Acronis Database.  Then take the option to Add existing backup from the (V) at the bottom of the panel and add back in the backup files - it should only be necessary to add the first full backup and let Acronis find all the further files in the version chain.
  2. Delete the Acronis Database files in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database folder then allow Acronis to rebuild the database when you restart the application.
Note: to delete the database files, you will need to end all Acronis Services and Processes first to remove any locks on the files by active programs.

In the meantime,  I MOVED my .tib files to a sub directory \old\ and used the existing Backup "job" (which I renamed) to do a full backup.

The new full backup doesn't seem to "see" the old one (as I'd expect).

Could I just try to Add the \old\ one  (without deleting the files you mentioned)?

Clay, the key issue in taking the approach that you have, is that it does not clean up the Acronis Database files which holds information about backup tasks, history, files etc.

To do what you are trying, please use the option (via (V)) to Clone task settings for your renamed backup task to create a duplicate backup task - this will be given the same name with (1) prefixed.  Do not run this new task yet but now Delete the previous task settings (do not try to delete the whole task including files as you have moved them and the action will hang).

You can now rename the new cloned task to remove the (1) prefix and the database should now be able to recognise that this is a whole new backup task, not a continuation of the previous renamed task with missing backup files.

You can then use the Add existing backup to add back your moved backup files in your \old\ folder.
