What does Entire PC mean?

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

Can someone please explain to me what Entire PC means?  It wouldn't include my external USB drive where I store my back-ups would it when I'm doing my backups?

See this screenshot

Entire PC says 523.8GB which confuses me.

I have a 1TB C: drive of which 61GB is used

See this screenshot

I have an external USB drive E: and a CD/DVD drive D:

My external USB drive E: is also 1TB which 651GB is used

See this screenshot

How can I actually tell what is being backed up, my full backups are around 61GB's each with compression

see this screenshot

Thanks for any help or explanation...

What is an Entire PC backup?

When you select Entire PC as a backup type, Acronis True Image backs up all your internal hard drives in disk mode. The backup contains the operating system, installed programs, system settings, and all your personal data including your photos, music, and documents.

Personally, I like having the ability to pick and choose exactly what I want to be sure.  Instead of "entire pc" i always choose the "disks and partitions" backup and select the full disk(s) and all paritions of those disks to be sure exactly what I'm getting.  In this manner, you could select not just the internal disks, but also the USB ones.  Just be sure to not include the drive where you are storing your Acronis backup images too unless you're sure that you're filtering out .TIB.

Hey Bobbo_3C0X1,

Thank you for the response

When I started ATI 2016 I never got the option to choose disks and partitions only the entire which my system is StevePC.  If I start ATI 2016 and add a backup I still do not see an option to choose disks and partitions, what am I missing?

When you start a new backup - the default is "entire pc".  Move the mouse over the icon and it will change from "entire pc" to "change source".  Then click on the icon and you will get 3 options:  Entire PC / Disks and paritions / Files and Folders

OK All,

Can someone please explain where the 523.8GB of my first screenshot comes from, since my only internal drive is my C: Drive, where did that number come from out of curiosity if anyone knows?

The 523 GB should be the sum total of ALL backups CREATED BY THIS SPECIFIC TASK,  which currently reside as tib files inside your backup storage  folder assigned to this specific task. Task name and tib backup name should match.

Anytime you create a task, each task should have its own unique task name.  No two tasks should have the same name.

Also reccommended that each task have its own individual storage folder or sub-folder.  It helps to avoid confusion is there is no mixing of tasks into one single folder.  Separate storge folders for each different task.

If you have two tasks doing the same thing, each name should differ and each storage folder should differ so that each task name  is unique.

Task name will be applied to the tib backup file so tib name (first part before suffix) and task name will be the same.
