What size for backup external drive

Thread needs solution

I'm new to Acronics and am still using the trial version. I'm backing up 750GB from my C: drive to a 2 TB external HD using USB 3.0 in 2 hours. After the first 5 daily backups I had a full backup plus 5 incremental backups. Acronics then did another full backup and started doing incremental backup to it. After reading the help info, I see that this is to be expected. I'm not clear are the monent about how older backups are deleted but it seems to me that my backup drive is not big enough; it already has 1.3TB used. What should my backup strategy be and what size backup drive should I use?

Judd, the size of your external backup drive will depend on the size of your full backup image file, plus average sizes of your incremental files multipled by how many backup version chains you intend to keep.

You will need to configure the automatic cleanup rules for your Acronis backup task - I would recommend using the option to Store no more than X recent versions where X allows for the size of your backup drive plus 1 further full backup image.

For example: If your full plus 5 incremental backups = 800GB, then for X = 2, you would need 1600GB plus space for another full backup which may be more than your 2TB drive size.

Thanks, Steve. I guess I'll get a 5TB drive. The difference in price between 3, 4, and 5 TB drive is not so great. Rather have too much disk space than too little. :-)
