When to create new bootable CD/DVD

Thread needs solution

I apologize in advance for this beginner’s question.

I have been using Acronis for many years and I have had to use it for recovery.  Worked!

Should I create a new bootable recovery CD after every Acronis software update?

If not, then when should I create a new bootable recovery CD after Acronis software update?

Can I recover from an old backup with a newly created bootable recovery CD?

Can I recover from an newer backup with a an older bootable recovery CD?

Or do the bootable recovery CD and the backup data need to be in-sync?

Thanks, Bob

Robert, welcome to these user forums.

This is a good question and there may be a case here to keep multiple different copies of the Acronis bootable Rescue Media CD.

Ideally you should make a new Rescue CD after any significant / major update to the ATIH software as this can bring in additional device driver support for new devices that you may be using.  There may also be fixes for known software bugs or issues included in the updated media.

Next, the question about recovering your backups with the rescue media.  This will depend on which particular product created the backup image files and how old that product is!

See KB document: 1689: Backup Archive Compatibility Across Different Product Versions which has the official position from Acronis about this subject, as shown in the extract copied below:  You will see that the later versions do not have an official backward compatibility with many of the previous versions when compared to the list shown for ATIH 2015.  This may or may not be the actual case, as the table may just reflect the ones which Acronis has actually tested in their labs rather than what does or doesn't work!
