When will Acronis True Image 2017 become available?
I was wondering because I am about to buy the product, 2016 edition, but don't want to miss the new version for a few days. If it'll become available in, say, September, I'd rather wait and get the brand new 2017' version. Or am I wrong?
Respectful regards from South America *Argentina*, Ignacio L.

Thanks a lot Steve!
That was exactly what I wanted to know. For not buying the software now when in a coulpe of weeks the new version will be available.
Always the new versions have some improvements, right? Can you give me a hint of the improvements, if there is anything at the user level?
And if I buy the 2016', then upgrading to 2017' will be paid or free for a certain time
It was great having your prompt reply.
I am glad to be an Acronis forum member.

Hi Ignacio,
Acronis usually provides a free major version upgrade if a version comes out within 30 days. Since we don't have the official release date, I'd hold off to be sure. If you're close within that time frame, they probably would cut some slack, but you just never know. Here's last years upgrade policy for 2016 - guessing it will be similar for 2017 when it's officially released.

Alternatively, if you have Acronis Cloud Subscription, upgrades are part of the subscription package, but the downside is if you don't renew, teh application no longer works (at least as of 2016 - perhaps this license model may change with 2017 - we won't know until it's released).

Hi Bobbo & Steve !
I wanted to buy the Cloud subscription, 5 PCs. Will it make any difference whether I pay the "2016" version or the "2017" one in a couple of week?
It's very interesting what you informed me, that (Cloud) it just doesn't work if you don't pay the yearly fee. I mean, it doesn't keep a copy on your PC, it's all "Web/ Cloud"? How can I be sure Acronis will keep on having this service in a few years' time? (I'm from South America, we have some trust issues ;)).

If you get the Cloud subscription, then nope, it won't matter for upgrades as you're eligible for all major releases during your annual subscription period. If getting a perpetual (stand-a-lone license) though, I'd hold off a couple more weeks until a release date is announced to make sure you get 2017 an don't get stuck with 2016 since 2017 is just around the corner.
For the Cloud subscription, the only thing that might be worth waiting for is to see what the support model will be in 2017 as you'd probably be locked into the 2016 support model of it does change. In 2016, your access to create backups with a cloud subscription is only good for the duration of an active subscription. You can make backup to local storage or the Cloud. If you choose not to renew, you can use your offline recovery media to restore any local images, but you wont' be able to make new backups and you won't be able to access Cloud backups after 30 days (as they will get deleted).
I'm hoping that at some point, there would be a subscription model that if you choose not to renew again, that the local software would still be fully functional, but that's wishful thinking at this point. Acronis is following a similar subscription method as Adobe is doing now and there are many other services that do the same. However, since the perpetual license is cheaper and will work forever (as long as the OS supports it), I would hope that the more expensive Cloud subscription, would at least allow the same features as the perpetual license if the subscription was not renewed. That's my vote anyway, but up to Acronis so we'll have to see how it breaks out for 2017.
Guess there's no way to be sure that acronis will be around in a few years time. They've been around awhile now and seem to be growing, but none of us can predict the future. Hold onto your offline reocvery media and be sure to make local backups in addition to cloud backups so that you have different avenues of retrieving data, and more diversity in case things go bad on either end.

Thanks a lot x your wonderful answer Bobbo!
You gave me all the information I was wanting to know and that wasn't so clear for the uninitiated like me.
I finally bought the Cloud 5 PCs, for I needed the backup now and wanted to be sure not to loose features in a few days.
I got your phrase very clear: "Hold onto your offline reocvery media and be sure to make local backups in addition to cloud backups so that you have different avenues of retrieving data, and more diversity in case things go bad on either end".
Acronis has been in business for about how long, 10 years, 20? I got a boxed 2008 boxed version thanks to my savvy PC technician, costed U$S 50 at the time on Amazon. 1 PC. Great product.
I liked what you mentioned about wishful thinking! I agree with what you expected from Acronis, an am glad you were so frank.
I am glad to be part of the Acronis forums, it solved my issues with clarity.
Thanks x the objective view,
Ignacio L. from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

You're very welcome. I'm a user like you and get nothing out of upselling so I call it like I see it. Just want to help out where I can. I really like Acronis and its saved me several times and that's why I agreed to be part of the MVP program. The more informed users are of how it works, the more likely they are to be aware of limitations and/or know how to use it. As long as you're able to back and recover, you're in good shape.
Make sure you make local backups too - just in case. Offsite cloud storage is great. Local backpus will not only give you some different avenues to recover from, but should go a lot more quickly for both backup and restore. I actually have 3 backups for each of my computer... 1 to an external USB drive, 1 to a network attached storage device and 1 to the cloud (3-2-1 backup strategy). I also take full offline backups with the recovery media from time to time (usually before any major changes to the system) and keep those disconnected to avoid the possibility of ransomeware or malware being able to do anything to them. Can never be safe if you're data or customized OS is important to you.

Hi Bobbo_3, Steve and or community,
Is ATI Cloud NOT compatible with Vista? For I can't seem to make it work with it.
I just read at System Requirements that Vista wasn't mentioned but, honestly, thought it was a typo.
Now I check the Sys Req. x ATI 16' and they put down very clearly: "Windows Vista (all editions) is not supported" ...
Is there any way for me to make my cherished Acronis softw. to work with Vista? It's an OS I wanted to keep for sentimental reasons. But it's a pain in the neck to install all the updates, the older versions of software, etc., so I really needed to have an image of it. And it's fairly unstable by itself, so it may crash at any minute.
Where should my savvy PC technician contact support x this burning topic?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks again Bobbo_3C0X1 (why the nick, if I may ask ;)?).
Now I understand the value of backup, why local backup is also important (fast). And having 3-2-1 is like a safer way to live the computer life.
I agree to "fully offline backups". Recently I got a malware that didn't turn out so badly (I have 3 paid anti spyware products...) and that made me realize I hadn't done any backup on this computer (running XP, ok, a vulnerable OSs in the 1st place). A friend got some ransomware and cannot get most of her pictures back, awful.
Both my data and customized OSs are vital for me, but I don't set about to do the proper backups. Yet!

Ignacio, unfortunately Acronis development decided not to test many of the recent versions of Acronis True Image with Windows Vista due to the very low take up of that OS.
