Why are My Backups sometimes Single file and sometimes Multi-file ?

Thread needs solution

First I backed up my Entire Computer to an External H.D.  - and I got 1 Large file named  Entire PC (DESKTOP-FRC16CE)_full_b1s1_v1  : type Acronis True Image Backup Archive  : Size 11,994,315 KB.

Then I backed up the Entire PC , To a USB Flash Drive - after adding the Pro-tool audio Program to the same computer and I got 9 files :
Entire PC (desktop-frC16CE) _full b1_s1_v1     and  v2, v3,v4,v5,v6,v7,v8 & v9.  The first 8 of these files are 4,194,304 KB and the 9th file is 883,946 Kb  : Each of the 9 files shows a Date modified time of 2/25/2017 and each is about 1 minute earlier than the succeeding file , ex . 5:57 am .. 5:58 am ... 5:59 am ..etc.

Why did the Full backup to the external Hard drive -  produce 1 large file and  the backup of the same computer  to a USB stick with a couple more programs on it - -  produce 9 smaller files ?

I did not log into the acronis online account to do the 2nd backup to the USB and am not sure if I Did when I backed up the pc initially.
I also take it that if I want to preserve these backups ..when I make a new backup , I must choose ADD Backup from the Acronis window.

It sounds like your flash drive is formatted Fat32. Fat32 has 4GB limit thus the 8 files of 4GB each. TI automatically breaks the backup up to match the formatting. Your PC hard drive is formatted NTFS which can handle files sizes considerably larger.

Thanks a lot . Makes sense - I will see if I can format the flash dirve to Ntfs
