Windows 10 - Boot Image cannot see Samsung SSD

Thread needs solution

I have a new build ( as of today ) of Windows 10 on a new PC.

It has a Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVM Solid State Drive.

Although I can backup fine with this, when I boot the sytem to do a restore ( was checking it out before I started installing lots of SW etc ), the drive cannot be seen.

This happens under all these conditions:

F11 to boot to Acronis

Bootable ISO downloaded from Acronis when I got the upgrade from 2013 to 2016 software.

Self-created ISO from the Acronis menus.

I would value any help - thank you.

Hello Harvey, this is a known problem with regard to support for these newer NVM SSD drives in the standard, Linux based, rescue media.  There is work afoot to release a new build of ATIH 2016 which according to the MVP's who have been testing the beta version of this, should resolve this issue in the linux rescue media builds, with support now added.

In the interim, the option you need to use is to create the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media which uses the Windows 10 ADK - the Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool will provide download links for both the Acronis 2016 Addons and the Microsoft Windows 10 ADK installer as part of guiding you through the process of creating the WinPE media.

Note: the Windows 10 ADK download link provided by the Acronis Media Builder is for the older version 10 of the ADK, you can download the Windows ADK version 10.1 from https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/dn913721.aspx to ensure that you have the latest level of support for newer devices included in the ADK.

If you still have any issues with the Windows PE Rescue media seeing your SSD drive, then you will need to follow the steps in post http://forum.acronis.com/forum/100770 for how to add more drivers to the WinPE media.

You sir, are *** Fantastic ***.

Follwoing your advise I downloaded the new ADK and was able to build a repair disk.  I could then boot and do a restore and confirm that the backup of the fresh installed OS was as perfect as it was going to be so I had my 100% new system restore point.

Steve - I can't thank you enough for your help here today and your time is very much appricahted.

Fact is - I would have never have sorted it without your help today.

Thank you.
