Windows 10 restore removed Microsoft Store
I recently bought a new computer as my old one failed. Fortunately I had been running Acronis True Image 2016 and was able to restore all my programs and data to the new HP Envy computer in spite of dissimilar hardware. (Hooray!) The old one had been running Windows 10 Pro, and the new one Windows 10 Home. However now after the restore, the Microsoft Store does not open, and all the fixes I have found online have not worked to restore it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for your suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. All I got was about 60 error messages and no luck with adding the Store. Next I tried adding a new user. That was even less successful as the Store didn't even show up in the list of available apps. I suspect I messed up when I ran the restore files from my True Image backup as instead of booting the new computer from that emergency boot disk, I ran Windows on my new machine and then ran the restore files. Now I have discovered I can't even run the Acronis True Image backup on the new computer as it repeatedly tries and then gives up. (Sigh!)

Marjorie,
Users whom face issues such as yours and are running Windows 10 have an option that hasn't existed since the days of Windows XP. It is known as an In Place Upgrade. Essentially it allows the user to run the Windows 10 installer file from within a booted Windows 10 OS and reinstall all of the necessary Windows system files without loss of user data or applications.
Below is a link to the best How To that I am aware of on the Net on how to perform this procedure. I have used the procedure myself and it works:

Post back with your results...

For what it's worth, I had an appstore issue with Windows 10 out of the blue - no upgrades or image restores involved. One day, the app store simply stopped working and when I tried to launch it, it would just say I need an app to run this app - go figure.
I tried the in place upgrade and it didn't fix it - remained after that - very strange indeed.
I also tried this one: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-restore-windows-store-in-windows-10-after-removing-it-with-powershell/ and other similar references with slightly different power shell settings.
Perhaps, in your case, the link above will fix it (worth a shot). If not, then try the in-place upgrade and see how it goes. If you're lucky, hopfelly one will work. I was not lucky though and decided it was less time to rebuild than to keep trying to fix the app store.

This sounds like a great option to try! I need to back up what I have now, though, before trying anything that might be scarey. I have work related things to get done today first. I really appreciate everyone's offers of help. All the other suggestions I have tried so far haven't worked, but hope springs eternal!

I want to appologize for waiting so long to respond to everyone's helpful advice to my problems. Much, but not all, of the problems have now been resolved. When I realized that my previously paid for McAfee virus protection was no longer working and couldn't be reinstated, I called them for help. It took their agent half a day to resolve the problem, and he made a number of changes to my computer in the process. After that, I did the in place upgrade to Windows 10, and it was successful in resoring most of the missing features. However, now I get a stdole 32.tlb error and all my Microsoft Office Professionsl 2007 apps have to go through a lengthy configuration process before they will open. At this point in time I still have not been able to get Acronis to again back up my system as it still wants to find old files that I have deleted. I just want it to start over with a new backup in a new location. Since I have been busy, I haven't spent a lot of time trying to figure all this out, but it is all very annoying.

I again tried last night to do a complete Acronis backup of my C drive, and again I received an error message which reads "The last backup has failed. Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in other applications." The "Check for a solution" does not offer any advice. Any thoughts?

Marjorie.
Sorry to see that you are still having problems. As for your last post and the access error, do you have Automatic Cleanup selected in the Backup Task Options set? If yes, try disabling the Automatic Cleanup and run the task again to see if the error remains.

Thanks!!! I did have Automatic Cleanup selected and have now turned it off. I'll try backing up again tonight.

Last night's full backup was successful!!! Would it be OK now if I were to manually delete all the attempted former backups and then reset it to Incrimental Backup for the future? I REALLY appreciate all your help!!!

Marjorie, if you do manually delete any of your older backups, then please run a Validation for the task that created them and take the option to ignore any backup versions that it says it cannot find, so that the Acronis Database information is reconciled with your actual remaining backups.

Marjorie,
Since you are starting with a clean slate (fresh Win 10 InPlace upgrade) I would recommend that you clear the True Image Database folder so that you can start fresh with True Image as well. To clear the folder you must first stop all Acronis Processes and Services using Windows Task Manager. You will find a list of these at this link: https://kb.acronis.com/content/56697.
After stopping the processes and services use Windows File Explorer to navigate to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ and locate the Database folder. Select the folder and then Delete it. The Database folder will be recreated automatically once you restart your PC and open True Image.
Once you have performed the restart of your PC and opened True Image You will still see the old backups in the list in the GUI. You can select the unwanted task by positioning your mouse pointer over the backup name and right click then select Delete. This will give you 2 options, Delete Whole backup which will delete the backup task and the associated backup .tib file for that task if any exists or, a choice of Settings Only which will remove the backup name from the list in the GUI but will NOT delete the backup .tib file for that backup task.
Once you have cleared the database and removed old backup tasks as per above I believe that the Automatic Cleanup will function as intended again. I strongly recommend that you start with a new scheduled task as modified tasks often bring unwanted results. So I think it best to clear out everything and start from square one again as outlined above. You can save your most recent backup .tib file however and add it back into the application. If you do that you can then Reconfigure the task for the backup by selecting the Reconfigure backup button which will be displayed once the backup is added back into the application.
