Windows explorer opens automatically

Thread needs solution

Since upgrading my True Image 2016 to build 6571 when I reboot file explorer is opened automatically displaying the drive I use as a destination for backups. I don't want Windows explorer to open on a reboot and I don't want it to point to my backup drive

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Mark

Mark, I am not aware of any issues related to ATIH 2016 build 6571 that could cause Windows Explorer to automatically open your backup drive, and I have no recollection of seeing any other users post in the forum about such an issue.

I would suggest checking for any auto-run / auto-start entries on your system.  I use the Piriform CCleaner utility which can show this type of detail or there are other utilities available that can do the same.  You could also do a seach in the Windows Registry if you are confident about looking in this.

The other though is to check your Auto Play settings for the drive that is being opened.

I'd guess autoplay is the problem as well.

  1. Open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type autoplay, and then click AutoPlay.

  2. In the list next to the device or type of media, click the new action you want to use.

For your removable drive, either select "take no action" or "ask me everytime".  If you don't want anything to happen, then "take no action" is the one you want. Acronis does not change this behavior, it is a Windows setting that can be modified by the user for every drive or for all drives.  Perhaps when you plugged in this drive, or another one, you accidently told it to open automatically when the prompt came up.

Thank you ever so much. Bobbo_3c0x1 you were correct. Sorry to have troubled you.

Best Wishes,

Mark

No worries. Glad it's sorted out.

Hi,

I have same issue. 2 laptops. Same models. Original one starts up and logs in, no Explorer window on startup. After cloning on the second one = Quick Access opens automatically.

AutoPlay is disabled.

Also, this happens to all users on the cloned laptop (have few users in family).

I've compared startup items with Sysinternal's Autoruns and there were few additional items on startup, but even after disabling them, explorer windows still starts up.

This happens on both 2015 and 2017 versions of PE based USB recovery drive.

Thanks.

What is being shown for Explorer when it is being opened automatically?

You sure it's not that quick access is the default behavior in File Explorer?

Alternatively, if it's actually file explorer opening automatically and you have autostart disabled for all media types, check for these too:

- Check Startup Folder for your profile and for the all users folder
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp

- Make sure that the option to "Restore previous folder windows at logon is not checked.

Yes, Quick Access is the default view, as this is new build. Even if I change to My PC instead of Quick View, explorer window will open after login on it's own.

Checked all locations prior to the post, and none of them have explorer.exe starting on startup.

Oddly enough this only happens on the cloned laptop. The original laptop logs in and goes to desktop. No Explorer window starting on its own.

Hello masterofp,

If the issue still persists and you want to resolve it, create a system backup, a rescue media and then try solutions offered here and here.

If you will need further help, submit a support ticket.
