Windows Shutdown Hang
This morning at about 4:30AM, I awoke to my computer showing the message "Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations, please wait. The computer will be turned off automatically in about two minutes." Since the scheduled backup/validate task should have completed long before, I waited 1/2 hour, and then did a hard reset after which my Windows 10 x64 Pro restarted OK.
Subsequent to the restart, I examined my email and noted that Acronis had sent an email with a timestamp of 2:15 AM that the previous tasks had completed successfully!
Also, when I restarted W10, the Action Center had a notification from Acronis indicating it had paused, and was waiting (couldn't see the rest of the message, and I don't think these messages are stored anyplace).
I examined the Windows Event Viewer, but didn't see anything referring to Acronis TI there.
In accordance with KB article 19016, I sent a note and my logs to Customer Support, but I am past my free support period and wonder if someone has an answer to this problem to keep it from recurring.

My system is doing the same thing. Every shut down my system hangs on this message:
"True Image is terminating the current operations, please wait. The computer will be turned off automatically in about two minutes."
System does not shut down. I have to force shut down.
System - Win 10 Pro 64
True Image 2016

Happened to me again this morning. I again sent logs to Acronis in accordance with their request in KB article 19106. Sure would be nice to get this fixed.

This issue caused a messy problem.
Last night Microsoft did a Windows Update.
After the Update and Install, my system rebooted, as always, and Acronis Hung.
I had to Force Shut Down, something you NEVER want to do during a Windows Update.
Not good.....

I had the same issue again last night.
I have a system backup that I run on-demand about once a week which backs up my main computer to my Synology NAS box. The backup is configured to shut the system down when it completes. This morning when I woke up I shut the NAS down remotely without ever going into my home office -- I assumed that the computer was already off since the backup would have completed by then.
I just got home to find the computer still trying to shut down, with the message that ATI was finishing up an operation and that it would shut down in two minutes. It's been nearly a day! :(
Come on Acronis, fix this!

This happens to me just about every time I run a back up.
Windows 7 backup to either a Linux home server or to an external USB.
I gave up trying to setup email notifications, the only clue that backups are being done (hopefully) is I can see the actual backup files on the server.
I also use the Acronis cloud as an offsite backup, hopefully one of them works.......

This 2016 is really a LOAD of Bugs............... 2015 run so well.....
Acronis taking us as testing pig ............:(
They should compensate us ...

I am in a similar situation. I've had my Windows 7 64bit system hang 4 times in the last week - just after the 'short' support period ended. I get the message at shutdown and the system just hangs - the only way is to force a shutdown and that normally leads to other problems.
All backups had completed on the last time (which I checked).I didn't have anything else scheduled and I don't use the cloud backup - it would take too long and is too expensive. If this issue continues for much longer I will move to another supplier .

Up ....... Acronis please do something !
I have hard reboot 4 times a day !

I recently upgraded to Acronis 2016, and I can truly say it is a disaster. I have watched the tutorial videos where it is boasted that with a couple of clicks you can back up or restore your system. I have Windows 10 and I don't believe Acronis 2016 is totally compatible with the new Windows. I have spent many hours on Chat to tech support and eventually learned that 2016 does not back up or restore directly from Windows. Both operations require the Windows boot order to be changed and the program booted from recovery media. Ok if that is the way it works so be it, but do not make tutorials showing it working from 'one click' operations.
Secondly, today, I purchased a Cloud upgrade. It shows in my list of registered products but has not activated at my account. This evening I spent almost 5 hours on Chat again, with no result. I gave over control of my machine to the support engineer, but pulled the plug on him when he started changing registry keys in my system. I explained that I did not consider that level of intervention should be needed simply to activate my Cloud account. I have requested a refund on both the upgrade to Acronis 2016 (from TI 2014) and the Cloud storage as neither product is fit for purpose. Having previously successfully used Acronis TI 9, 11 and 14, I am appalled at this latest version.

Just confirming that I have the same issue happening almost every day, and it's starting to annoy me incredibly.
I have a license for 3 PCs, using Acronis True Image Home 2016 build 5634. On my Vaio laptop running Win10 Pro x64 everything seems to be fine. I'm sometimes getting the "terminating current operations, please wait" message, but it never lasts more than two minutes. On my Dell XPS desktop running Win10 Pro x64 it happens almost every time. I have to say that on that PC we use 3 different accounts - 2 administrator accounts and 1 standard account (different members of the family). It seems to be that whenever we log in using the "standard" account first, that the problems are starting. Logging out of that account and then logging back in with an admin account does not solve the issue though. Furthermore it's not always happening this way - it feels kinda random. Both PCs have Norton Security so I'm assuming that this can't be the root cause. Once the "terminating current operations" message appears, it stays there and the only thing possible is a hard power off. Previous builds were fine. This is the first build that causes all these issues.

Unfortunately I decided to uninstall Acronis.
I have used Acronis for many years, but the risks caused by this hang are too high.
I hope the Acronis engineers fix this issue, then I'll come back.

I uninstall the latest build......... and put back 5620...

I'm going to try 2015. I think that version didn't give me problems. I'll let you know
im running Win 10 64 Pro.

William - Try the build 5620 ............. so far it work for me ....
- Log in to post comments

I installed 5620 but acronis said I'm running 5634. I think that's a registry error. Left over from last install
Im running a fresh backup. I'll let you know what happens.

@william schmitt: I suggest you uninstall/reinstall just to make sure you have 5620... It should also prompt you several times that there is an update available. Now I also installed build 5620 and it seems to be better, however I will be able to tell in a day or so.

I have already written some angry posts here related to this issue. This bug has a long history. Don't expect a fix. Support forum engineers are unhelpful and Acronis is a ridiculous company. The same problem appears with Acronis 2015 and all the previous versions (only under different names !!!). I think that nobody (or at least me) wants to work for free as a beta tester of this sloppy software. The best one can do is to completely get rid of this crap. I will be satisfied if I discourage as many people as possible from purchasing this unpredictable software.

Suggest Acronis check out what is wrong with the latest build compare to 5620 .......
And recall the latest build..

I can now confirm - no more shutdown hangs with build 5620 (Windows 10 Pro x64). Acronis, are you listening?

To all posters to this thread,
If you want to get this issue before the developers of the True Image product you should use the Feedback feature found in the Help section (left column) of the GUI (open book icon).

yes, I've done that, and even raised a trouble ticket via support. I even attempted chat but they told me that all the agents were busy and that they would get back to me via email. I also PM'ed support engineer Anna on this forum... Net result = ZERO responses. Shame on you Acronis!

Hi All,
The solution:
In Services: Disable the following: Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini; Acronis Nonstop Backup Service and Acronis Sync Agent Service. If not backing up to Cloud, you don't need the Sync Agent Service enabled.
In Startup: Disable Acronis TIB Mounter Monitor and Acronis True Image Monitor.
At Shutdown, if Acronis True Image does appear, it disappears in less than 1 minute. Faster, if you also turn off the Router at night to save Energy.

2015 run so well.....
actually untrue: Browse the forum for this specific problem. Bascially ATIH 2016 has seen changes to prevent any issues with this shutdown problem.
Anna kindly asked us that we should report anything back if this message will be shown for more than 2 minutes before it get canceled. While I was very happy that the Acronis team finally caught this problem, I concur that I had it on one system lately that refused to complete a clean shutdown, so it seems somehow it got reintroduced as it was away for a long time during beta and beyond. The affected OS was Windows 10, along with ATIH 2015 b5634

Why so many tuning needed ?.... cant that be fixed like Build 5620?

Hi Richard,
You might ask Acronis Support, Why make it necessary for Acronis to run, while the computer is being shutdown, when nothing is being backed up or was restored, in the first place?

Dont bother to spend too much time... I am on B5620 ..... I blieve it will be over soon.

Users experiencing this probem should consider running Microsofts Process Monitor to help track down what process it is that is preventing TI from closing. The links below are to the Microsoft Sysinternals page from which the utllity can be downloaded (there are other useful tools there as well that may help) and a link to the Acronis knowledge base which gives a brief overview of using the Process Monitor tool to collect information.

update: I received a response from support - basically a non-response.
What frustrates me is that indeed my support of 1 month has run out, however, when I bought TI 2016 (back in August) there was no problem! The issues for me started with the upgrade to build 5634. It was not my decision, but the auto update pushed by Acronis, so it's not fair to first cut support and then release a broken update. This basically excludes everyone who bought the upgrade in August and who's suffering from these issues right now.
Also, I noticed that in their response, they suggest to install build 5628. Seems like it's an acknowledgement that build 5634 is bad.
===========================================================
As I understand, you have an issue that windows shutdown hangs with the message 'Acronis true image is terminating the current operations..'.
First of all, I greatly apologize for the delay with the answer.
This is the designed behavior. To avoid data corruption, Acronis True Image postpones the system shutdown until the task is safely stopped.
https://kb.acronis.com/content/19016
However, if you have no tasks running at the time of shutdown or restart or the machine still displays this message for longer than several minutes, please try to:
Please use Microsoft Fixit program to uninstall Acronis True Image 2016:
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9779673
After uninstallation is completed, please download installation file from below link to install Acronis True Image 2016 again:

Also please understand that your support program has expired on 2015-09-17 and we may not provide additional support at this moment.

Patrick, please understand our support policy allows provide support service from 1 month after the purchase. Please kindly let us know if you have any additional questions/issue.

From my perspective and a little reading between the lines I would assume that it is probable that the upgrade from ver 5628 to 5634 did not go well in your case and some application corruption occured. I suppose that Support is suggesting that since the product version 5628 is known to work on your machine that reverting to that build would be a solution for you. I would think though that in doing that you would be faced with upgrade nags from the application which would not be desirable.
Might I suggest that you run the suggested Microsoft fix it tool to remove the 5634 application then, go to your account on the Support page and download the 5634 version and install it clean. If the issues persists then you can run the fix it tool again to remove the application.
I would also suggest that you run the Process Monitor tool I mentioned in post #35 in hopes of possibly finding what process is hanging at shutdown. It just might be that some other application is interfering with the TI shutdown and is part of the issue.

I had this problem recently and it appears to have gone away, though it's only been a few days now. Here's what happened:
I have 6 PCs on a piece of industrial equipment that's not connected to the internet. One had TI2015 already installed, and was eligible for the TI2016 upgrade. I bought a 5 pack of TI2016 for the other 5 PCs.
After installing TI2016 ver 5620 on all 6 PCs and registering them offline, the 5 new installs worked (with a few bugs) with no reboot problems, but the upgraded install had the shutdown hang problem.
I uninstalled the upgraded version and re-installed 5620, and the shutdown hang problem appears to be gone. I've just upgraded to 5634, and one reboot has been OK, but time will tell.
Since these aren't connected to the internet, there are no scheduled MS updates performed, so that may be a confounding factor.
So, if you're seeing this on an upgraded install, it might help to uninstall and re-install. YMMV, as always.

Hi Richard,
Like Acronis True Image 2016 was a Bug Fix version for Acronis True Image 2015, Acronis True Image 2017 will be a Bug Fix version for Acronis True Image 2016.
They will be restoring the ability to Read existing Comments / Descriptions in Image Backups of existing Backups and newly created Images. Else Users will be looking elsewhere.

Wah ....... 2017 will be bug fix for 2016 ............ but you did not mention that " Pay $$ for 2017 ....

Hi Richard,
I started with Acronis True Image Home 10. Then I purchased Acronis True Image 2011, which was a mistake, because it lacked the ability to view the existing Comments in existing Images and I was not able to return the product, because I waited too long to start to use the product.
This time I purchased Acronis True Image 2015 and complained right away, about the inability to view existing comments and it was very hard to tell where I was backing up to.
Then Acronis Support gave me a Free Upgrade to Acronis True Image 2016, which I accepted. That version fixed the ability to tell where I was backing up to. However, it still lacked the ability to read Comments I entered with each image I produced. I couldn't tell what the image I was restoring, contained.
A Support Representative was support to do a Remote Session on my computer to see what was going on, but failed to show up. I got mad and wrote the following:
"
Bottom Question: If Comments / Descriptions aren't going to be restored for Acronis True Image 2016, will I be entitled to a Free Upgrade to Acronis True Image 2017, when it comes out with the ability to see and read the Comments / Descriptions of the existing Images? If not, please refund my money.
The ability to read Comments, is very important to me.
Thank you!"
They gave me my money back and never answered the question. But the answered was implied by a Refund.
All the other programs, give one the ability to add a Description to the Image and the ability to read the Description, once created.
Maybe others don't add Comments to Images, but I do.

Just checked again after some scheduled backups, and the shutdown hang problem is still gone. This worked for me, at least.

For what it is worth, I had the same "Acronis shutting down in 2 minutes" yesterday night when I shut down my PC. If I remember correctly, it was then followed by some message about a (Microsoft/Windows??) upgrade. That upgrade halted somewhere around 35%. After a couple of minutes I did a hard power-off/on, Windows booted and told me that it was upgrading (from around 37% I think). Shortly after the system was up and running again.
Just thought you should know. Maybe I will more observant the next time - if there is next time.

I clean installed TI2016 yesterday onto a clean W10 install and am now seeing this problem.
Off the wall question... all of you that are seeing this problem, did you use Acronis to restore an image, and that it was following that that the problem started ? and/or have you set any file exclusions up ? I ask that because I did not see this issue yesterday at all, and yet today it is ever present. I have been using Acronis to restore images that made while doing the super clean W10 install.
