WinPE based recovery media does not boot

Thread needs solution

I am running ATI 2016 under Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720.

I created 2 WinPE-based recovery media:

1. on a USB stick

2. on a DVD disc

When I boot from the USB stick I get a flashing underscore in the top left of the screen. Nothing else happens.

When I boot from the DVD I get the following message "BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Hello David,

Thank you for your posting! Have you tried booting with the Linux-based bootable media? I would also suggest to re-install the ADK or create the WinPE-media on the other machine and check if it works correct.

Thank you,

You should see two boot otions for the USB stick. This is a 64 bit WinPE, so you need to select the option that starts with UEFI. When it boots you may get a BSOD relating to a driver. When that happens hit the F8 key to display options and hit the F7 key to override driver signature enforcement.
