Mike,

2016 and 2015 are backwards compatible.  You can import the 2015 backup into Acronis in Windows.  Alternatively, and recommended, if you need to recover from it, I would use the 2016 offline bootable recovery media and restore from it to a new location or restore the OS as needed.  As always though, I would recommend you take an image/backup to have a current state of things (just in case), if you plan to restore your OS or file/folders over the original location on the source drive.

Hello Michael, welcome to this user forum.

How are you trying to open the ATIH 2015 backup archive file?

There are three methods that can be used.

  1. Open the archive within the ATIH 2016 GUI - you can use the option at the bottom of the left column to 'Add existing backup' from the (V) icon.
  2. Right-click on the .TIB image file in Windows Explorer and take the option for True Image > Mount.
Note: I would recommend taking the > Validate option to allow Acronis to confirm that the archive is good.
  3. Double-click on the .TIB image file in Windows Explorer to browse the contents of the image archive file.

You should also download a copy of the Log File Viewer App from this forum and use this to check for any messages in the log files for any actions you have been trying for the archive - look at the date / time stamps on the various different Log Types in the Viewer.
