Work while restoring

Thread needs solution

I've been using True Image for a while now (currently using 2016) and upgraded versions every year or so. The other day something made me recall being able to restore an image and actually boot the PC and start working while the rest of the files were restored so you could get to using your PC quicker. I did use a little of Ghost back in the day but I thought that used to be a feature of True Image. Anyone remember if TI did that if there's a way to do it now?

Steven, welcome to these user forums.

I am not aware of any feature that would allow you to restore a backup image of your Windows OS and start working while that restore was in progress.  The main reason why is that this type of restore (of OS data) has to occur outside of Windows, i.e. using the Acronis Rescue Media to boot or booting into either a temporary Linux environment or having the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager installed, which uses the same Linux environment.

The only mention that I have seen in this area is when doing a restore from the Acronis Cloud which may provide some element of allowing you to start using Windows while further aspects of the restore continue, but I have had no personal experience of doing this.

I could swear I've used an image program that did just that. It restarted in a separate boot environment, restored some files critical to the OS, started booting it, and something in the background went off restoring the rest of the files. If a file was needed, it would immediately pull those in. It was a slick system but I can't remember which product it was, but it appears it wasn't True Image. I tested EaseUS and have used Macrium at work and don't think it was either of those, and the only other one I've used is Ghost. Well at least it appears I'm not missing some secret way of making that happen with TI. Thanks for your response.

Hello Steven

Similar functionality is offered in Acronis Backup 11.7, it's called Acronis Active Restore.

Thank you,

That's probably what I was thinking of, thanks! Now I'm wondering if that was ever included in True Image 10 (first version I purchased) or later or if I was testing the other backup products when I found the feature.

This feature is a part of Acronis Backup product family only. BTW, the earlier versions of this product were named Acronis True Image 9.1 and Acronis True Image Echo.
