Would these 3 files be a full drive restore

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have image files such as..

ST500DM002-1BC142_inc_b2_s3_v1.tib    14MB  roughly
ST500DM002-1BC142_inc_b2_s2_v1.tib    20MB
ST500DM002-1BC142_inc_b2_s1_v1.tib   263MB

Would this be a full drive restore and how do I go about it please?

Thanks

David,

Looking at the file names, there is a disconnect...One of the files in the sequence must be a "full" backup such as:

M.2 500GB_Win10_Local1_full_b1_s1_v1.tib, and I believe the "s1" file should be the "full" backup.

So, if your file "ST500DM002-1BC142_inc_b2_s1_v1.tib"  is actually "ST500DM002-1BC142_full_b2_s1_v1.tib" then based on file size, I would guess that the backup is a file/folder backup.

One way to check the type backup is to mount the "full" .tib file.  You can mount the .tib file using Windows explorer...right click on the .tib file, select "True Image" then "Mount".  If the .tib file mounts, then the backup is a disk/partition backup.  File/folder backups will not mount, and you will get an error message.

HI,

Firstly thanks for the reply.

Sorry, my bad !

One of thise files WAS full...

ST500DM002-1BC142_full_b2_s1_v1

the rest are inc and inc.

It does mount with

Disk 1
C:  465 GB
Recovery  450 MB
Disk 3
NTFS 100MB

So if I hit {roceed I would end with a new C Drive ?

David, I assume that your sizes in your first post should have been in GigaBytes GB not Megabytes MB.

Next, if you are intending to restore this backup chain to your current C: drive then this should be done using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media and not from within Windows, so as to avoid any necessity to modify your Windows boot loader configuration.

You should create the Acronis Rescue Media on either DVD or a 1GB (or larger but not more than 32GB) memory stick using the Acronis Rescue Media Builder application in the Tools section of the GUI.

You should also test which boot method your Windows OS uses, i.e. does it boot using BIOS / MBR (aka Legacy boot) or does it use EFI which often has Secure boot enabled?  You can determine this by following the advice at webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS  - this is important as the Acronis Rescue Media needs to be booted via the same method as your OS.

Please test that the Rescue Media will boot fully into the Acronis application and that you can see and select the drive holding your backup images plus can see your installed C: drive.

Take a look at post: 117004: Great Acronis "How-To" videos and other Acronis Resources which has some good video tutorials that cover this process.

See also KB document: 57982: Acronis True Image 2016: Restoring to a Drive with a Single Partition which gives an overview of the complete process for restoring your backup to a new disk drive, but where it shows the differences between UEFI & BIOS systems and the options these offer.  You should be able to go to the second section of this document for: Recovering partitions which covers the type of restore you are looking at performing.  You should only need to restore just your C: drive partition and leave the Recovery and 100MB partitions as they are on the drive.
