Acronis 2017 - Essential -BLOAT

Thread needs solution

I have reverted back to 2014 and it has been working flawless for several months after removing the buggy 2016. I have requested a bare minimum install be created to rid those unnecessary services that were not relevant to backup of a PC. Those extra running services caused multiple problems.

I now see there is something called Essential that looks to be on the way to getting there. I now see backup for mobile devices included. This is NOT necessary for Essential PC backups. There are several services running in regards to the mobile backup option.

Why not remove that mobile option and give users the bare minimum of backing up a PC.

I have no idea if those extra running services that I know I'll never use will cause problems like those extra services did in 2016.

My suggestion is to remove all those MOBILE services, and if users wants that option then there is the next tier that supports mobile.

Michael, I have not come across any mention of an Essential version of ATIH with everything stripped back to only those functions needed for Backup & Recovery.

I would suggest sending your comments about such a requirement direct to Acronis by using the Feedback tool in the ATIH GUI as these are essentially just user forums with rare visits from anyone at Acronis.

Acronis do seem to be listening to customer concerns and the new ATIH 2018 Beta that is currently running is looking very good and has disabled such as Mobile Backup when it is not being used.

The Essential term is used for the ATI 2017 perpetual license version (as opposed to the subscriptions).

Thanks, Bruno.  Guess they are using the 'Essential' term with our cousins on the other side of the Atlantic then as the UK page for ATIH 2017 has stuck with 'Standard' instead..! (Not that I have been looking at the page very often recently).

The Essential backup version has no cloud storage available, and I believe is an add-on feature, or possibly you need the next tier higher to get it.

Yes, they need to really get an Essential version of Acronis with just PC backup and restore keeping all the features they now have for backup and restore. Lots of extra services running for Mobile backup.

Michael, the term Essential on the Acronis web pages is purely a Sales mechanism as shown by their using 'Standard' on the UK web pages for the same product.  All it is really is the perpetual license version with no included Cloud component, which would be my own preferred choice when buying the product.

What is not always obvious to users is that the Subscription versions of the product stop working as backup products if you allow the subscription to lapse, and can only be used to restore/recover backups made previously, which is as much use as a chocolate tea-pot!

Ok, so let me see if I get it:

The Essential version never expires?

The Plus or Premium versions quit working (backing up) if the subscription expires?

Do Essential users get updates along the way, and for how long?

Thanks...

The license for the Essential version does not expire, whereas the subscription licenses do expire. Updates to the Essential version are provided as long as it is for the same product. Having an Essential license to ATI 2017 means that I do get the updates to ATI 2017; it does not mean I get an update to ATI 2018.

Acronis will send out emails to those with licenses allowing them to get newer versions at discounted prices. When I moved from ATI 2014 to ATI 2017, I think I paid under $40 for four licenses on the offer I took.

Are you running Essential version, and if so is there a way to disable the Mobile part?

I wish they would make it all modular so we can pick and choose what is installed. I have made the request a few times in the past few years after the added the cloud and the login after starting Acronis. It was all about reaching ALL the users for cloud services and getting all the users involved in their marketing schemes.

Michael. I do not run the Mobile part. I have set the services Acronis Mobile Backup Server and Acronis Mobile Backup Status Server to Manual. That's all it takes.

Michael, in the Useful Links section on the right, see MVP User Tools and Tutorials where you will find a selection of batch script files which can enable or disable any or all of the Acronis Services on your demand.

Below is a screenshot of the services that are installed by default. I don't use non-stop backup or the sync feature. Is there a way to turn them off, and is it safe to do that?

Here's how I run mine and for what you describe you should be able to do the same. From the Services, you can change them easily.
