Acronis 2017 & Windows 10 64bit using Windows Defender, Defender Exclusion list

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True image 2017 on W10 64 bit using the built in Windows Defender.

Today I noticed that in Defenders exclusions is this one:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe

Process

Should that be there listed as a Defender exclusion? I do not remember putting it in?

I wonder if any one could let me know if it should be there or not, or if there is an official Acronis document mentioning this.

Thanks

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed that the official support for TI-2017 has ended already. Mine effectively was only supported for 6-7 months from when I purchased it. So unless I've misunderstood, I cannot ask Acronis support themselves it seems. I think thats bad, I've used free software with better support than that!

D W, welcome to these User Forums.

Where are you looking at the Windows Defender exclusion list?  Just had a look on one of my systems with Defender and ATIH 2018 but didn't find where any exclusions were shown (but am not that familiar with that side of Defender as only keep that one system using it for testing - normally use Comodo Internet Security).

As for support of ATIH 2017, the old model was just 30-days from date of purchase, so even getting 6-7 months support is a whole lot better.  Acronis are only supporting older product versions for 2 months after a new product is released, so potentially up to around 14 months if you got it on day 1.  They do offer a Pay Per Incident service but as the name implies, they will want your money for this!

You could take out a 30-day trial copy of ATIH 2018 and get 30 days of free support during the trial period to ask any questions if you still saw the same issue?

Steve, thanks for the reply.

I don't remember seeing the exclusion listed before thats why I asked. But I don't check these exclusions often so I cannot say for sure.

I'm looking at: Start - Settings - Update & Security - Windows Defender, then click the "Open Windows Defender Security Center" - Virus and threat Protection - Virus & threat Protection settings. Towards the bottom is 'Exclusions' and its now listed there when you click to Add or Remove exclusions.

I'm on the latest build of W10 (16299.402 - well latest for the moment anyway) and have TI 2017 build 8058.

A full scan with Defender and Malwarebytes both show clean, so I've no reason to suspect its dodgy. But I'd rather not have any exceptions listed unless I really have to.

Support - I saw a date somewhere that mentioned the 2017 end of support date, which was about 6 months after I purchased it. Maybe the end of support was 30 days, this is just the first time I think I've wanted to use it. I understand that support must end some time, but not even letting you email them a question directly seems a bit OTT to me, unless you can email their support and I missed where?  I'm quite happy with the product until now though.

Thanks for the pointer to where you were looking in the Windows Defender settings - I can confirm that I see exactly the same exclusion added for my ATI 2018 application, and definitely didn't add that myself, so must be added during installation.

See webpage: Acronis Support Lifecycle Policy for Consumer Products for the official statement about support for each of the different product versions.  Scroll down the page to where dates are shown.

Steve, many thanks for your assistance.

And thank you for confirming the exclusion. I guess nothing to worry about then. Just odd I hadn't noticed it before.

I purchased it about Feb/Mar 2017, so I got about 6 months(ish) covered support maximum.
