Acronis Active Protection slows down applications

Thread needs solution

I have spent many hours trying to find out why Windows 10 File Explorer was so slow when opening after booting.  I didn't want to waste anymore time; so, I gave up and purchased an alternative file explorer called Directory Opus.  Well Opus doesn't work either.  Program not responding.  Digging further, Opus says the problem is with Acronis True Image.  Something to do with file shell extensions.  A web search yielded:

62113: Acronis Active Protection slows down applications without a valid digital signature that modify many files in a short period of time

The solution is to whitelist the slow programs.  Unfortunately, 2017 doesn't have this option.  What is the solution for 2017?  After wasting all of the time determining the problem, please don't tell me I need to upgrade to 2019.

My recollection is that ATI 2017 does not use the term "white list" in the relevant menu. (Not particularly helpful!)

I think you need to open the Active Protection tab in ATI 2017, and then click on "Manage Processes" (just above What's New), which will allow you to add the program that is being slowed down to the exclusion list - if there are multilple files with *.exe extension you may need to add them all.

Hope this helps

PS 1 I am assuming the layout is similar to that in ATI 2018; the feature was added half-way through the life cycle and is not described in the User Guide I have for ATI 2017.

PS 2  I do not recall having issues with Directory Opus, but is some years since I last used ATI 2017, so I may have been one of the programs I reported during the development cycle [it is definitely not slowed down in ATI 2019]; however adding it to the exclusion list will get it back to normal. To use Directory Opus to delete an *.tib file you must temporarily disable active protection. It will also mess up the ATI data base, so you should either move using ATI itself, or delete the task (but not the files) from ATI.

See KB 59356: Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation: troubleshooting Acronis Active Protection - which has some information on 'Manage permission list' for allowing programs etc.
