Acronis Cloud Backup After reinstallation of Windows

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I currently have a Backup Job, that syncs some of my Colud folders (Dropbox, Gdrive,..) to the acronis cloud and keeps up to 6 versions for each File. The backup is ~30G in size.

I now want to do a clean install of windows on my pc and set up the same Backup job for exactly the same folders.

But the last time i did this it started uploading all the 30G again.

Is it in any way possible, to let it sync only the changed files again? Like treating the new system the same as the "old" system?

Greetings

Josh

Josh, welcome to these user forums.

When you say you have a Backup Job that syncs some of your Cloud folders...  are you doing an actual Backup to the Acronis Cloud or are you doing an Acronis Synchronisation to the Acronis Cloud?  These are two separate features / functions available in ATIH 2017 but work in different ways.

If you are doing a Backup, then you would probably need to ask this question directly to Acronis Support via a Support Case if you are trying to relink a new Backup Task to an existing Acronis Cloud backup after doing a clean install of Windows.

You could try saving a copy of C:\ProgramData\Acronis\ and all its sub-folders then restoring this before reinstalling ATIH 2017 on the new install of Windows to see if this picks up your original Cloud backup task, but you may need to reselect the Source Data for the backup to ensure that this is correct.

If you are doing Synchronisation, then this should be a lot simpler provided that your Cloud folder locations have not changed with the clean install of Windows and should be a case of installing ATIH 2017 and then joining the existing Cloud Sync you have in the Cloud.  There would be a period of time while Acronis scanned the local and Cloud data to check for any data that should be synchronised.

Hey,

I'm doing an actual backup of my other Colud Folders to the Acronis cloud.

Okay then i'll contact the support directly.

But another question. Can the Synchronisation keep a version history? And do stuff like: Delete versions older then x Months ?

Josh, please see the ATIH 2017 User Guide: About the Sync feature which will tell you more about the synchronisation feature, which does allow you to revert to an earlier version, but doesn't say how many versions are kept but implies that versions are shown by date & time, so you can have multiple versions.  See the section Versions of synchronised files for more information.

See also How to clean up your space on Acronis Cloud which shows you the available options for managing your versions of cloud data.
