Acronis just saved my life a few days ago
I am a designer. I work remotely at home, and I often use my computer around 10 hours per day. This computer is very important to me because I have been using it to make a living for years.
A few days ago my computer suddenly became unusable. I could log on to the desktop, but I couldn't launch any programs. I have tried dozens of different approaches to fix this problem, but none of them worked. It might be a virus, a software driver conflict..., but whatever, all I cared was that I couldn't use my computer anymore. I was really scared because my project's deadline was very near.
Reinstalling Windows would be a nightmare, and it would take at least 4-5 days, because I have nearly 100 apps, each of them has a size from several MBs to several GBs, and each app has also been tweaked specifically to suit my unique need.
I didn't worry about data loss, because I use Dropbox. I only worried about Windows and the apps.
That is where Acronis comes.
The last time I created a backup image was 1 month before the accident. Although I create backup images regularly, I rarely use them. That's why I was a little worried. Anyway this was my only choice. I then created a Acronis USB boot, and then used it to restore my C drive.
At first, it ... failed. When I was restoring, in the validation process, it just displayed an error window: "operation has failed" There was nothing else. I was very frustrated. I went to my bed, covering my head up with my blanket, feeling very depressed. I didn't know why it failed, because previously I had restored my computer several times successfully.
I tried again. Still failed. "Oh no I'm doomed" I thought. But wait... this time the validation process ran a little bit longer before it failed. I thought very hard to figure out why. And I discovered that the drive I used to store Acronis backup images was nearly full (only 5% free space left). I then used a DOS utility usb to delete some unnecessary files. I stopped when the drive had 25% free space. And I ran Acronis restore process again. Viola! This time it succeeded.
I cannot describe how happy I was. I celebrated like crazy, even more cheerfully than when my favourite football club wins the champions league. After that I could log on to my computer. Everything was still intact. I could resume my work.
Thank you Acronis. You just saved my life.
