Acronis TI 2017 Automatic Cleanup Keeps Getting Turned Off

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis TI 2017 (latest build 8058) installed on over 68 computers, both Windows 7 and 10, that I support.  I hope someone from Acronis will reach out and look into this issue even though my free support has ended.  I did not know this issue existed until all the backup drives started filling up and then I had people contacting me.

Here are the Backup scheme settings that I prefer to use:

  1. Backup  scheme:  Custom Scheme
  2. Backup method: Incremental
  3. Create a full version after 5 incremental versions
  4. Store no more than 2 recent versions
  5. Do not delete the first version of the backup
  6. Save as default.

The issue is that when I save this backup task, and then go back and look at the settings again, Automatic Cleanup will be turned off.  Or Automatic Cleanup will still be set one time, but then it's off the next, and then on again the next time.  There is no consistency.  And then the drive fills up months or a year later, the user will get alerts that the disk is full, and then I check the settings and Automatic Cleanup will be off, again!  This is so frustrating.

I have toggled Options 5 and 6 list above both on and off and the results are the same.  These are the same settings I have been using for all previous TI versions and the settings I use now for TI 2018, and I don't have this issue with any other version of TI.

This can easily be reproduced on TI 2017.  This happens both on Windows 7 and 10.  Can someone please try it?

Does anyone have a workaround?  Maybe there's a way to manually edit/save whatever script file contains this setting??

I attached a screen shot of the correct settings, and then a screen shot of the wrong settings after saving the task and then going back into the options.

Hello pitmancd,

might be caused by the antivirus software. I'd start with adding Acronis to the list of exclusion as per
Acronis Software: Making Acronis Products Compatible with Antivirus Software
and
Acronis Software: exclude program folders and executables from antivirus and other security programs
