Acronis TI 2017 causes explorer.exe to freeze and crash in Windows 10

Thread needs solution

After installing Acronis TI 2017 yesterday explorer.exe would lock up, crash and restart whenever I would right click on a drive to view properties.

"Visual C++ Runtime Library>Runtime Error Explorer.exe>This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way."

Uninstalling Acronis TI 2017 fixed the problem. Anybody else have this problem?

Fortunately, my only use for this product is portable disk cloning. I don't use it for backup. But for those who do and need it to be installed on the system it could be an issue.

Harry, welcome to these User Forums.

I have not personally experienced any problems of the type you have described in using ATIH 2017 with Windows 10 causing Explorer.exe to crash, nor have I seen any reports of this happening for other users that I can recall.

I would recommend opening a Support Case direct with Acronis Support for this issue if you wish to try to get to the root cause.

Did you upgrade to ATIH 2017 from an earlier version of the product, and if so, which earlier version did you have before?

Harry. I'll second Steve's comment about not having any issues like you describe. I have TI 2017 running on a desktop with the Creators Update and a laptop with the Build 1607. I've never had a crash on either machine when I right click on properties.

I was having this exact issue with 2015 having used it for nearly 3 years - uninstalled it - windows is fine - reinstall, freezes again! Decided today to upgrade to Acronis 2018 thinking it would be different - nope! Freezes just the same - I've removed it and windows is 100% great!

Running windows 7 64bit all updates installed - anti virus and malware up to date and run - no issues.

Phil, welcome to these User Forums.

I can only recommend raising this issue as a Support Case direct with Acronis as this issue is only impacting a very small number of users and would need the skills available to Acronis development to investigate why it is happening.

Thank you, Steve. I will try to contact them direct, although, the 24/7 chat window that they promote was woefully unattended as I sat there waiting for a response for 15 minutes - there never seems to a phone number to call - chat windows, email - anything other than a person to talk to - sorry, I have been fighting with this for a while. Thank you for your advice.
