Acronis True Image 2017 1 Computer

Thread needs solution

Does the 1 Computer version work with the Source Laptop (Dell XPS) and my new Target Laptop (HP Omen 17) or do I have to purchase the 3 Computer version?

Also, my Dell XPS has Windows 10 Pro but my new HP Omen has Windows 10 Home.  Will I be able to Move the Pro version over to the Home version making my new HP Omen Windows 10 Pro?

Thanks for your assistance

Kim, welcome to these User Forums.

From your question / information given, it looks that you are wanting to migrate from the Dell XPS laptop to a new HP Omen laptop and use the Acronis Universal Restore facility to do so.

The 1 Computer version of ATIH 2017 would be fine for doing this but you will encounter Windows licensing / activation issues because of the differences in Windows 10 OS versions (Pro on the Source versus Home on the Target) - especially if both these versions are OEM products, i.e. licensed to the specific Dell / HP hardware where they have been activated.

This means that moving your Windows 10 Pro to the HP Omen is unlikely to activate because the license held for the HP was only for the 10 Home product.

If you haven't already done so, please ensure that you make a full disk & partitions backup of both laptops before committing to any actions which will wipe out the current OS installations on these computers.  You can use the Acronis bootable Rescue Media to do these backups so that they are captured completely outside of Windows.

Please note that there are other considerations for when doing this type of OS migration to different hardware.  The disk controller mode used on both computers should be the same, i.e. both using AHCI for SATA, etc.
