Anyone seeing wrong build reported? (download build 8065 but Acronis reports build 8058)

Thread solved

I was wondering if anyone else had run into the same odd situation I have?

I have been using Acronis True Image 2017 (perpetual license) faithfully to do a manual backup every 3 months and it normally checks for an update when it runs so I assumed it would download the latest build, 8065, which is apparently necessary for Acronis to work (I don't do online cloud backups if that makes a difference, manual backups stored on the computer's hard drive itself).

Like a lot of people (I'm guessing) I got the scary email from Acronis today (January 28th 2022) indicating Acronis needed to be updated to the latest build or it would stop working.

Here's the strange thing... I log into my acronis account online, it offers a download for build 8065 (I haven't tried the ISO download and installing via DVD/CD yet, did the other download it offers the application one,  "AcronisTrueImage2017_is"

I installed this file (it asked me to uninstall my current version of Acronis which I did, and then reinstall using the file downloaded)... rebooted the PC as the program asked me to do... launched Acronis True Image, it asked me to log into my online Acronis account, which I did... and when I launch the program itself, Acronis True Image 2017 still claims it's running build 8058 despite the fact I downloaded the file for build 8065 (and yep I'm sure it was the 8065 build download I double checked it) ... the other strange thing is that Acronis continues to insist it's up to date in the " account" window in the Acronis program when it is launched.

Is it just me or is anyone else encountering this issue?

I am in the same boat; 2017 perpetual license; download and install the Windows PC build 8065 (AcronisTrueImage2017_is.exe; several times); install the "new build" (several times).  Launch Acronis local image, and it reports I am still at build 8058.

I've looked at the AcronisTrueImage database in the build 8065 download package, and find the newest file dates are all the year 2017.  Looks to me like they didn't create the build package correctly.

So I'm trying to find a phone number or Email address to contact them (before the February deadline).  But so far, just caught up in the cycle  of online support saying they no longer support AcronisTrueImage 2017.

Do you have any ideas how to solve?

Andre, I haven't got any systems with ATI 2017 installed as have never had a perpetual license for that particular version (had it on subscription as an MVP at the time so didn't buy it).

The warning email is focussed on users storing files in the Acronis Cloud where they look to have made changes for security reasons, any operations to local destinations etc should be fine.

You can try downloading the new build installer from the Acronis Product Updates page if you are unsure as to whether you have the new build installed or not?

Ditto.

I got the email; downloaded 8065 (allegedly); started the install but then stopped when presented with the install options Repair or Uninstall, the option to Install was missing. If it really was a new build (newer than 8058), then the Install option should have been there. You only get the Repair or Uninstall options when the version you are trying to install is the same as the version you already have installed.

Andre's experience having actually proceeded with the new build Install and found it to still be 8058 (which is consistent with my experience in only getting the Repair/Uninstall options), suggests to me that the version on the Acronis website which is supposedly 8065, is in fact 8058. Either that or 8065 isn't correctly versioned internally so the installer gets confused or something.

Thanks so much for your quick reply Steve :) ... I tried the download page and it's the exact same file as the one the online Acronis account website type thing gives as far as the "download and run this file" type thing (haven't  tried my luck with the ISO download yet) ... really strange !

I'm hoping that it doesn't affect me regardless since I don't do the cloud based image saves but... in the scary email it gives a link to this

https://kb.acronis.com/content/69830?sc_src=email_3610511&sc_lid=257670…

and they mention that if the new build is not installed you won't be able to log into your acronis account (which would be bad since I wouldn't be able to manage my Acronis 2017 True Image say to reinstall it for example ) , it says " Perpetual license activation (countdown of 30 days will begin, after which all product functions will stop working, not only listed on this page)." ... under the "  What exactly will happen, if I don't install the new build?" part of the article.

Mind you it looks like a general "blurb" for a variety of Acronis products so ... hopefully I will be lucky and unaffected even if Acronis won't let me download the latest build for some strange reason (or if I'm really lucky I really did download the latest build and there's just some sort of "goof" where it lists the incorrect build number when installed) ....

Normally I would be contacting Acronis tech support for this instead of bothering you guys :) ... but apparently Acronis True Image 2017 product support is discontinued

Yes, I had the same experience today. If you ask to download build 8065 it gives you a file that installs build 8058, which I already had. Regardless of whether you ask to download 8065 or 8058, what it gives you is 8058.

I do not currently have ATI 2017 installed. However I downloaded the installation file from the location @Steve Smith mentioned and under the Details tab of file properties, it has the version number as 20.10.0.8065, with digital signature dated 16 December 2021.

Same issue:  both the downloads from my account and general download page have the wrong build (marked 8065, but the file is the old 8058 build).  Hopefully Acronis will put up the correct build soon.

Hello fellows!

This is forwarded to respective Acronis team for fixing.

Meanwhile, please use this link to download the latest installation file for 2017 version:

Anna thanks so much for this :) ... however I did have a question about Acronis True Image 2016 which I notice was not included in the list of programs where you need to update to the most recent build...according to this website my build for Acronis True Image 2016 (build 6595 ) on my PC's that have Acronis True Image 2016  is the most recent one if I am understanding this article correctly

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/updates/index.html#consumer

But Anna... to the best of your knowledge (or Steve or IanL-S or any of you other experts out there :)  ) will the 2016 version of Acronis True Image still work come February 2022?

Also to give an update Anna's download worked perfectly for Acronis True Image 2017 on both laptops I have it installed on - it gave an "update" option, let me update to build 8065, rebooted the laptop and ran Acronis True Image again to be on the safe side and it still reports that it is updated to build 8065 so that's great thanks so much for that Anna this greatly reassures me and helps me to breath easy  :)

Having said that I sincerely hope Acronis extends that February deadline (or at least pushes it till say February 28th 2022) given the problem so many of us had when we followed the instructions given by Acronis :(  (namely to log into our online acronis account, select the download button, and install the download which was apparently mislabeled build 8065 only to discover it was the earlier build instead ) ... it seems a bit unfair  :(    to punish us with the horrible repercussions mentioned in this scary link below under " what exactly will happen if I don't install the new build" part of the link

https://kb.acronis.com/content/69830?sc_src=email_3610511&sc_lid=257670…

Andre, my understanding is that older versions will still work for local backups & recovery etc provided that they are activated by serial number and don't want to access the Acronis online dashboard or Acronis Cloud services - the latter services will fail after the February deadline because the required security changes will not be present in those earlier versions of ATI.

We have no method of proving the above until the deadline expires after which I can test with ATI 2015 which I have installed in a Windows 10 Hyper-V VM.  The majority of my testing systems have ATI 2018 and later versions, all of which have been updated with the new builds.

Steve thanks so much for this, this could be great news for us Acronis True Image 2016 (or older edition) users and I am so happy that you have a 2015 version running AND you are kind enough to test it out for the Acronis forum community you're awesome :)

I only run my Acronis backups every 3 months (bad I know it should be more often :(    ) but I will try to remember to post on the forum here too re: if my 2016 True Image is still letting me do backups

Hello Andre, I've clarified your question with the colleagues - 2016 and older version shouldn't be affected. The changes only affect 2017-2021 product versions.

Hi guys just an update in case this helps anyone ... it's May 2022 and Acronis True Image 2016 still works fine on my desktop PC's (Windows) as far as being able to make backups of my dual boot Win 8/Win 10 systems ... obviously the "real" test would be restoring Windows from one of those backups which I'm reluctant to do unless absolutely necessary (getting dual boot up and running again is a real pain after I do that, do-able but involved and takes several tries) ... but as far as I can see it creates the backups no problem :)
