ATI 2017 halting when trying to backup Outlook data files when Outlook is active

Thread needs solution

I get an error saying

Failed to backup file or folder (my outlook data file name). reply retry or ignore.

This happens when outlook is active. This did not happen until recently. I have been backing up outlook data files for years with many different versions of ATI and outlook all while Outlook was active. Currently using ATI 2017 and Outlook from Office 365

I have seen this with other programs, but not specifically with Acronis 2017. Is the file in question *.ost or *.pst - I suspect (without any good reason) that it could be *.ost.

Randy, see post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/117030#comment-351442 which may be relevant for this issue you are seeing with Outlook files.  Acronis uses the Microsoft VSS which may be excluding these files.

BTW, it is the .ost file that ATI is hanging on.  It does not have a problem with the .pst files

I tried the regedit solution but I do not have the registry key mentioned in the post. All my keys start with HKEY_.

Trying the VSS=false solution next

The VSS=false solution seems to work.  Also, the backup now occurrs in a fraction of the time it used to. I tried to recover the file and it appears to be there and current in the backup.  Problem fixed?

Randy, where the post referenced HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToSnapshot - this needs to be read as HKEY_Local_Machine for the initial HKLM part which is abbreviated from this.

Thanks Steve, found it now in regedit
