ATI 2017 Restore Image from NAS
Hello,
I'm trying to restore an ATI image backup from a NAS device using Recovery function of Acronis bootable media.
I can successfully connect to the NAS device and expand the root folder in ATI recovery assistant explorer.
However when I try to expand the folder where my backup files are stored, it seems that the assistant freezes.
When I click anywhere in the recovery assistant dialog surface a beep sound accours.
I looked at the recource monitor of my NAS and noticed a transfer speed (send) of 30-50KB/sec.
To establish a connection to the NAS after entering my credentials tooks ~2minutes.
I use the network settings of ATI and set the transfer speed to 1000Mbps Full duplex.
My NAS is direct wired to the Router my PC connects to the router by ethernet.
Typically when I backup a drive image to my NAS I noticed transfer speed of 20-50MB/sec.
As a workaround I transfered the files to a different computer a restore the image from there.
Anyony has any ideas how to troubleshoot?
Thanks
Bodo

Thanks Steve,
Yes, thats exactly what I'm doing, using Acronis bootable Rescue Media.
I'm recovering a Acronis True Image 2017 image (drive image backup) from the NAS.
The NAS is connected by network cable only, there's no wifi envolved anywhere.
Thanks
Bodo

Bodo, thanks for the clarification.
What size is your ATIH 2017 drive image and is it from a single .TIB file or is it a backup version chain with multiple .TIB files (full plus incrementals or differentials)?
How long have you waited on the recovery panels when they appear to freeze? I ask because in the later versions of the application there doesn't seem to be any progress indication as there was with earlier versions, so you will get a bleep from the program if you try clicking before it is ready to show the next panel etc.
Do you have any other significant activity on your network when doing the recovery, i.e. any media streaming etc?

The size of the image file is 117GB.
When I click the Browse for backups button, it took 30sec until the panel appears.
Than I enter the NAS ip adress followed by the foldername (ie 192.168.178.55\MyBackup) into the filename box.
Then it tooks a few seconds until ATI prompts for the credential to access the NAS.
Then the folder structure appears in ATI explorer pane and I expand the folder (\MyBackup) where my tib files are located. From here on the ATI panel freezes. I waited 30 minutes but quit then.
That particular folder that I'm trying to navigate to contains 30 tib files, i.e version chains.
there is no other activity going on other than to access the NAS folders.
BTW I created a ATI bootable Rescue Media on a USB stick using the latest build of ATI 2017 about 4 weeks ago.

Which version of the Rescue Media are you using here? Is this the default Linux based media or are you using the Windows PE version?
When you get the panel freeze, can you do anything at all, i.e. can you click on the Logs option from the left side?

hm, I think it's the default Linux based one.
When the panel freezes, no other input keyboard or mouse is possible.

Bodo, I can only suggest trying the WinPE Rescue Media if you are able to create this. Other than this, you would need to open a Support Case directly with Acronis and see if they can throw any light on why the freeze is happening.
I tend to only use the WinPE media these days, and this is the MVP Custom WinPE media on my USB stick.

Steve's advice is solid.
As a workaround, I would suggest transferring the backup image to a USB drive, connecting that drive to the PC and restoring from that USB drive (after booting from the Acronis Rescue Media).

"Than I enter the NAS ip adress followed by the foldername (ie 192.168.178.55\MyBackup) into the filename box."
You say above you are using the default Linux recovery media, in which case if think the address should be:
//192.168.178.55/MyBackup
Linux path names use "/" not "\" as delimiter.
As always I could be completely off the track.

+1 on tuttle's recommendation "....transferring the backup image to a USB drive....". That is how I perform restores from my NAS. Hopefully, you have another computer connected to your NAS.
