Backup (clone) to Image?

Thread needs solution

I've used an older verison of Acronis a lot. But this new one is a little confusing to me.

I want to backup (called Clone in the older one I think) a complete hard drive- and save to a file (image) on another drive. NOT replacing anyting on the other drive.

Perhaps a regular backup does that? But if so, it never really says that and I don't see anyplace to name the backup image file or anything.

Later, I will want to take that image file and clone (restore?) back to a new HD.

I did some searches, but it was pretty useless.

What you want is a Backup. I've been using ATI since version 8 or so, and it has always been called Backup. A backup creates a .tib image file on the target drive, so a target drive may contain many .tib backups. When you want to restore that image to a drive, it's called Restore.

Clone is something different, and we recommend against its use. What you want is Backup.

Yup - definitely backup.

Some good videos showing features of Acronis as well as actual backup and restore (both in Windows and with rescue media):

thanks for the infor and tips.

The version I am used to is quite different and it seems some of the options are gone. But I succesfully did a backup of entire drive (Using Paralells on a Mac) and all seems good.

I'll read up on the tips.

Thanks
