Backup Never Finishes

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I am using a backup scheme I have used many times before. The completion bar show 'consolidating backup' with '1m remaining', and stays like that forever. It never finishes after an hour or more. If I try to stop the backup, it just says processing without ever stopping. I am obliged to stop it using task manager.

Any suggestions? Or thoughts?

Robert, the message 'consolidating backup' is given because ATI is trying to perform automatic cleanup for your backup task, so this raises other questions here about what your automatic cleanup settings are, how many files are involved and where those files are stored, i.e. on a local / external backup drive, on a network drive etc?

One simple option here would be to create a new backup task and remove any schedule for the task having the issue, allowing time for the new task to establish a few backups, then use the Delete option for the original task to remove just the task settings / definition from the ATI GUI, which would then allow you to manually prune any unwanted files for that task from your storage location.

I am assuming that you have ATI 2017 as this is the forum for that version, but if you have ATI 2019 or later, then you can use the new Clean up versions tool option for the task to remove any unwanted backup files safely.
