Backup Protection

Thread needs solution

Just upgraded to true Image 2017 ver 2. On my Full Image and File backups to my network  NAS is see a password and encryption under options "back up protection" I dont remember setting that up. So I'm afraid I wont be able to restore . Anyway to check the passwords or try them out or delete them.

Thanks

Navigate to the backup .tib from Windows file explorer and double click it.  If promptd for a password, it has a one, if not, it doesn't.

I believe that what you're seeing (if you didn't put a password on it) is just a generic palceholder since the field is now locked out.  Once a backup has run, you can not go back into the task and change this particular setting (can't modify, add, or remove a password) for any backup task that has already been run - the password (or non-password) is hard coded the moment the backup is run.

OK thanks. Looks like the Image is protected and the file is not. I figured out the password. I think I'll run new backups when I have a little time with out protection to be safe.

Lawrence, one thing to be aware of that I have found on my own system.

If you use the option to 'Set as default' on the task Options pages when you have set a Password and Encryption level, then the password will also apply to further tasks that you create unless you clear this!

Yes, it is good to know that Steve.
