Backup using rescue media Stuck at "Time Left: 6 Minutes"

Thread needs solution

Hello.

I purchase a 5 PC subscription of Acronis True Image 2017. After I installed my first copy on one computer. I created a Boot Rescue Media with True Image installed.

I booted on my 2nd PC connected a 4TB USB 3.0 drive to make a backup using the Boot media.  The backup started and seems to be working, then on Step 2 of 3 - Creating partition image it says it has Time left: 6 Minutes

Note:  The Hard drive to be backup has Windows 10 with 49GB of used space

After waiting up to 9 Hours it still says it has 6 Minutes left....  I waited some more 12 hrs still say thing and the progress bar did not move. There were no apparent activity on the Hard drive.

I Tried to stop the backup by pressing Cancel, this too seems to hang as I never got back to the main screen. I powered Off the machine then used my laptop to view the size of the backup image, the size was 0

I tried a second time Booting from the Rescue Media and performed another Backup still Hang the same way.

I went on a 3rd PC, and attempt to perform the same Backup with the same result.

Why is Acronis True Image 2017's Boot media does not seem to work?

Any solution to this?

I would appreciate any feedback and help,

Thank you

Sam

Sam, welcome to these user forums.

Please can you confirm what build version for ATIH 2017 you are using - this will be shown on the Account page in the main GUI.  Note; the current latest build is #5554.

Have you created the standard, Linux based, Rescue Media and was this on CD/DVD or on USB stick?

When booting from the Rescue Media are you doing so in the same mode as used by your Windows OS - see webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS

When you are using the Rescue Media, you can access the Log file for the action being performed provided you do while the rescue media is still active, this may give details of any errors being encountered.

You should also see sticky post: 127281: MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER for a utility produced by the MVP community for Windows PE Rescue Media.

A couple of other items to look for / consider:

1) Run chkdsk /f /r on both the source and destination disk for good measure before the backup

2) What OS are you using - Windows 10 / 8.1?  If so, you may have fastboot enabled (which it is by default).  If so, when you "shutdown" you're really only hibernating the system as that's how fastboot works.  With the hibernation file in place, Windows locks the source disk to prevent 3rd party loaders from accessing the disk and this may be what's causing the lockup.   If so, either turn off hibernation completely which will force a full shutdown, or use command prompt and type shutdown /s /t 1 which will require a full shutdown in 1 second instead of a fastboto shutdown... Or, restart instead of shutdown and boot to your recovery media right after the restart as a restart also forces a full shutdown before starting up again.

3) I also recommend trying the MVP WinPE builder over the default Linux media (you just need to ensure that you have Windows ADK installed first and can get it in the links below - recommend Windows 10 ADK v1511 for any system OS that has Windows 7 or newer to creat win10 Acronis WinPE.  WinPE can work better in some cases, especially if your system is using RAID as the SATA mode in the bios (even if you have only a single NVME PCIE hard drive).  The MVP winPE builder makes this process really simple now and gives you some cool, custom WinPE in the process.

Since you cannot run the boot media True Image app successfully on any machine I would suspect that the boot media itself is corrupt.  Try creating new media on a new disc or to a new flash drive.
